hey guys, so i was looking up 'crazy' baby names ytd, and came accross this article... what are your thoughts on new zealand banning what they deem crazy baby names?.....
"The list of 102 names rejected in the past two years includes Baron, Bishop, Duke, General, Judge, Justice, King, Knight and Mr, all deemed too similar to titles.
Messiah was also turned down, as was 89, and the letters, C, D, I and T"

ok il start by who would name their baby 89??? or C???? but i know a girl called justice and she represents the name really well, also is Duke really that crazy???

as for Benson and Hedges (twins named after the cigarette brand), and Violence and Number 16 Bus Shelter, both for boys. is insane i would never name my kids after cigarettes, alcohol or drugs..or a bus shelter for that matter thsi made me angry so angry naming a child afer cigarettes and violence

anyway here is the link, check it out and lemme know what your thoughts are...

oh and another article to say NZ isnt the only place to have bans...
http://globalpublics...ird-baby-names/
In Sweden, name choices are subject to a naming law. While Lego and Google have been approved as names for children, Superman, Metallica and Elvis, and the name Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116, pronounced Albin, were not approved.

In 2007, a judge in the Dominican Republic submitted a proposal to ban names that are either confusing or gave no indication of gender, such as the names Qeurida Pina (Dear Pineapple) and Tonton Ruiz (Dummy Ruiz), according to the Globe and Mail.

this article is also interesting

http://www.babynameo...que-baby-names/
'One New Zealand judge has warned parents that giving your children bizarre names could lead to psychological trauma for them in later life. “It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap,” said Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt in 2008 after granting 9 year old Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii permission to assume a more straightforward title.'

'An important British study released in May indicated 1 in 5 parents regret the name they chose for a child.'

'The British Bounty study worked with 3,000 parents and found 1/5 wished they chose a name that was easier to spell. 8% were fed up people could not pronounce the child’s name. 1 in 10 felt the name was clever at the time but now think the novelty had worn off.'

Whoa... some parents are really weird! And I thought 'Nevaeh' was pretty creative... :)

I really think banning Duke was a bit much! I know someone with that name, he's totally normal, as are his parents! But I agree with the others.

Violence is a disgusting name! I'm horrified that anyone would even think of that. Mind you, being called 'James' may not save the child if his parents have that sort of mind. A rose by any other name...

"Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116, pronounced Albin" made me LOL :) But what's wrong with Elvis?! It's just a name that happened to belong to Elvis Presley. If we went down the route of baning all names ever used by celebrities, we'd have nothing left.

I wonder what that Dominican judge would make of Lane, Rory, Mackenzie, Ashley and all those other truly unisex names...

I think its unfair for children to grow up with names like 'Knight' and 'King'.. therefore the law make's sense :)

Who would name their baby 89? Seriously lol.

Google approved? but Elvis banned? Should be the other way around.

Speaking of the name King my cousin's friend (I forget she's not really family). jus had a little boy a year ago and named him King Maximus Reignald (insert last name here). King Maximus. I feel soo bad for that little boy when he gets older.

That is quite bad! Poor kid. Maybe people will just call him Max when he's
older? You should start the trend :)

I probably will. He's adorable but I could never name my kid something like that. It's askin for torment.

Totally agree! I sort of know how you feel actually - my newborn 2nd cousin, a girl, has been named Julie Alan [Surname]. Alan. For a girl. Although I don't live in New Zealand, I wish they'd ban that...

Alan? I mean that's their choice but they could've usef Alana or something similar to Alan.
My family's full of odd names. Skeeter, trips all named Chase Alexander, my uncle Dog (well, his middle name's Dog, but that's whst he goes by). My brother was almost Fritz.
