The first thing I think is Mih-shell-uh, like Michelle with an a on the end. I could also see it being pronounced like Michaela, kind of.

Michelle-a is how I pronounce it. I think if you want the Michaela pronunciation than Michaela is the best spelling as it clearly give the long "a" sound.

I think Michelle-ah is probably the way it's pronounced but I could also see it being very easily mistaken as Michaela.

Ok, so the history behind the name is this:
My parents knew a family before I was born that had a little girl named Michaela, only they pronounced it Mi-kell-a. My mom liked it, and almost used it for me. When hearing this story as a kid I always assumed it was spelled "Michela" because I knew Michaela was pronounced with a "kay" sound.
Years later, I still like the sound of Mi-kell-a... but I'm unsure if the Michela spelling is too confusing. The Michaela spelling is out for me because I just see the original spelling of Mikayla
Thoughts, comments, better spelling ideas?

I think you could keep the spelling of Michela. Just be aware you will have to spell it for probably everyone you/your daughter meets.
Some other possible spellings:
Mickela
Mickella
Mikela
Mikkela
Mikella
Mikala
Micala
Michala
Mikela is kind of pretty, but all the others are a little out there. Although the "Mik" at the beginning kind of makes it look a little bit exotic instead of unique.
