So you all helped me pick between the names Scarlett and Charlotte. I'm now struggling to decide between Amelie and Amelia or Emilia. I like the nicknames Milly and Em. Any advice or pro/cons lists anything at all would be a great help. Thanks

For me, Amelie is by far the most beautiful :]

Amelie Rose has been the top name on my list for years!

It's elegant, sophisticated, beautiful.. and to me works both on a little girl and an adult woman.

I love it! ;D

As for nn's there's so many I've come up with!

Ames, Ami(e), Elle, Ellie, Mel, Melly, Millie, Mia... ♥

I'll try pros and cons (at least for me).

Amelia
Pros: Beautiful class, probably won't be mispronounced.
Cons: Some might consider it boring/overused. Personally, it's just okay. The "meal" sound, which I explain later.

Amelie
Pros: Has a lovely French feel to it if I'm not mistaken, not nearly as popular/overused as Amelia might be.
Cons: only 1 letter away from super popular Amelia so I think it will be mispronounced a lot. I would probably pronounce it Ahm-el-lye if I didn't know better, and that isn't very pretty. I don't like Amy as a nn, it's so boring. Also, Mia isn't as easy to get for Amelie as for Amelia, and Mia is my fave nickname for Amelia. The "meal" sound has never been very attractive to me. Some very uniformed person may think you just made it up from Amelia.

Emilia
Pros: I love Emmy or Em as a nickname (so much more than Ames or Amy), and Mia is still plenty possible. It's a very stately and powerful sounding name, but still soft enough to be feminine. Honestly, I think it is the perfect mix for me. I voted for Emilia.
Cons: Might get confused with Emily (though not as likely as with Amelia/Amelie). Still has that "meal" sound. That's not a big deal, though.

I like the foreign French feel to Amelie and its not as popular as the other names. Amelie Rose is very pretty I love the nicknames Millie and Mia but does Mia work with Amelie? any middle name suggestions for Amelie? I think its between Amelie and Emilia for me atm with Amelie slightly winning. thanks for the help

I was at the zoo last saterday and ran into a little girl named Amelie- cute as a button! (or, at leat she was running from her mommy and her mom yelled out "Amelie!", haha!)

For me, Amelia is kind of overused and blah <3

Amelie- I love it!!! It's so precious sounding, and I like the french flair! I think Mia is plenty a possibity! I mean, if Jack can be a nick name for John, then Mia can most definitely be a nickname for Amelie! I can personally see it plenty how the nick name makes sense...

Emelia- I always thought it was just like Amelia. Though I do like it more, it seems more original and strong yet feminine :D Plus, I adore the nick name Emmy as well <3

Good luck with this! Another tough decision! :)

I think Amelie would be confused more often for Emily/Amelia than Emilia would.

To me when you SEE a name, if it looks similar to another more popular name, you can sometimes glance at it quickly and get it wrong...so by looking it at it could be confused as Amelia, since only the last letter is different. Emilia is very different from Emily and I dont think many people would have a problem identifying it if they saw it.

When you HEAR a name, sometimes older people or if it isn't stated clearly can missunderstand a name. This is where Amelie would have the most trouble IMO...Amelie has both the -ly ending and the M sound so I could imagine it being confused with Emily quite often. Emilia might be missunderstood as Amelia (since they are practically the same name but spelled differently) but it wouldnt cause as much confusion as Amelie, IMO.

I think Emilia has tons more cute nn options (which is why it got my vote) I ADORE the nn Emmy.
