I, personaly, am getting kinda tired of them. I mean, I love my name, and would never change it. My mom gave me this name, and she worked hard to find a perfect name for me. She loves it, I love it :D But anyways, people seem to go over board with this. A girl named Noah? James? Tyler? Michael? I don't mind Ryan, only cause my big sisters name is Ryan (as is my niece) so I'm just used to it being on a girl, but I just don't get why a person can't use a girls name on a girl. There are so many out there! I think there are some that are nice, like Taylor and Andie, but still...can y'all lable my list of unisex names to which gender you prefer them on, and tell me your thoughts on them? Add any names to my list that I missed! (Theres a lot, but can you write a description for each one sperately? Even the ones set apart by /?) Thanks bunches! ~Hayden

I don't like them because after a while people start saying, you shouldn't name you child such and such because its a boys name now. I really don't like it at all.

With the exception of Sam, Dakota (like it better on a boy), Reese, Avery, and Lane/Lake.... they are all boy names. I say that Sam is an exception because its short for samuel or samantha, reese is more unisex as is Avery, Lane, and Lake. Dakota could be either because its a place.

Unisex names are a picky subject. Some people love them, some hate them. I personally am not a fan. People who are expecting give their baby girl a boy name in hopes that she will be tough and strong, like the boy's name suggests. Whether as people name their baby boy's girl names in hopes that he will be sensitive and kind. If you want to give them a strong name, give them one, by all means. But give them a gender correct one. You want a strong girl name? There's Rebecah, Alexandra, Charlette, etc. A soft boy name? Rhys, Noah, Cody. You'll only embarress them when they find out in high school that they share their names with 5 other girls.

Alright! There's my little rant for the day! :D

Noah-- Definitely a boy's name
James--Ditto
Tyler/Taylor--Tyler is a boy, Taylor is a girl IMO
Michael--Boy
Ryan--Boy
Rhys--I really dislike this name, but boy
Asher/Ashton--Boy
Chase--Definitely a boy
Hayden/Jayden/Kayden/Brayden/Aiden--all boy's names, though I don't like any of these either (Sorry!)
Finley--Ick. Neither. Flynn is a boy
Sam--Short for Samantha or Samira or some such name, I like it on a girl, but not by itself.
Dakota--Indifferent, either way it's awful
Cameron/Kamryn--This one is more of a unisex for me, though I prefer Carmen on a girl, and Cameron on a boy
Alex--See Sam. As a nn for Alexandra, etc, it's fine for a girl
Hunter--Awful name, but not as bad on a boy
Tate--Boy, though Tatum is alright on a girl
Charlie--Definitely a boy's name
Avery--I hate how this is popular for girls now, I like it only as a boy name
Andie/Drew--Andie is cute as a nn for a girl, Drew is awful for either gender
Carson--Definitely a boy
Cody/Cory--boy
Justin/Dustin--Boy
Breckin--Ick. Neither. Sounds like a household cleaner.
Mason--boy
Brody--boy for sure
Jesse--Jessi/Jessie works for a girl on its own I think, Jesse is cute on a boy too
Lane/Lake--Lane or Laine or Layne is for a girl, Lake is horrible for either gender

I'm of course the odd one out - I much prefer unisex names to any other regardless of sex. Of course I grew up with a play mate named Courtney who was very much a boy! So I automatically think Courtney as a boys name. You can see that my kids names are very unisex & I would love for my 3rd one to be. If it's a girl, her name will be Turner Chayse but if it's a boy....we're undecided but DH likes Adrian/Adrien. I'm not sold on it.

Not a fan of unisex names, but since people use them all the time, I do have an opinion on whether they should be used on boys or girls.

-Austin - definintely a boy. I didn't even know this was considered a unisex name haha.
-Madison - I know wayyy to many little girls with this name so I'd be weird on a boy
-Courtney - girl. this is a unisex name????
-Addison - I really don't like this name. I don't like for a boy or a girl
-Shane - this is my best friend's boyfriend's name, so definitely a boy
-Skyler - I know a boy with this name, but I like it better on a girl. I prefer just Skye though
-Zane - boy, unless it's being used as a nn for Suzanne
-Peyton - ugh. I feel the same way about this name as I do Addison. I don't like on anyone
-Farrel - boy, i guess...
-Frankie - it sounds more masculine to me, but it could be a nn for some longer girls names. don't really like it though
-Raine - girl
-Colbie - either. this one is actually okay....
-Delaney - there's something about this name I've never liked...but definitely a girl
-Evan -boy for sure
-Grier - boy, i guess...not a fan of the name
-Casey/Kasey - girl for sure. sounds too feminine for a guy
-Blaire - girl
-Brooke - girl
-Ashley - i'd feel bad for a guy if he had this name
-Bailey - definitely girl
-Blake - boy
-Danny/Dani - i love the nn for a boy, but not for a girl
-Harlow - boy
-Ambrose - boy--i have a cousin with this name
-Ali - girl
-Jax - boy
-Shannon - girl
-Robyn/Robin - girl
-Sasha - girl for sure
-Logan - boy
-Rowan - i dunno. can't decide
-Kai - boy
-Jamie - either
-Toni - boy
-Lee - i like it better on a girl
-Morgan - i feel the same way about this one as i do about ashley---poor boy if he has this name!
-Kerri - girl
-Jordan - girl
-Kiegan/Tiegan - i like keigan but not tiegan. and boy
-Aubrey - girl
-Harper - girl
-Cassidy - girl
-Kelly - girl--I do know a boy with this name though--he's gotten teased for it
-Chris - boy
-Christian - boy

I too am not a fan of unisex names. I have a unisex name and as a child in those drwings for a boys or girls bikes they would put me in the boys. Once I won and I told them that I am a girl and they discussed it for like ten minutes before saying I could have the girls bike, i mean it's not my fault I was given a unisex name and that they assumed it was a boys name.

Noah- boy
James-boy, even though i am considering it for a girl's middle name (after my daddy B) )
Tyler/Taylor-Tyler boy, Taylor could be for either in my opinion
Michael-this spelling for a boy, Mikel for a girl
Ryan-could be either in my opinion
Rhys- like better for a boy, but it's ok for a girl too
Asher/Ashton-i like better for a boy
Chase-boy
Hayden/Jayden/Kayden/Brayden/Aiden-boyish, except for Hayden and Jayden, they could be either i guess
Finley-love for boy or girl
Sam-cute nickname for a girl, but mainly boyish
Dakota-fine for either gender (this is my daughter's middle name B) )
Cameron/Kamryn-i've always liked this alittle better for a girl personally
Alex-cute for either gender
Hunter-boy, even though my mom used to babysit a little girl named Hunter
Tate-boy
Charlie-cute for either gender
Avery-cute for either
Andie/Drew-cute for either
Carson-like for either gender
Cody/Cory-my brother's name is Corey so i can only picture it on a boy, cody is cute for either though
Justin/Dustin-boy
Breckin-boy
Mason-i could see this on a girl i guess
Brody-boy
Jesse-boy, Jessie(short for Jessica) on a girl
Lane/Lake-this could be either i guess

Sorry if this is worded weird, i'm kinda in a hurry B) I personally love most boy's names on girl's but i can see where some people wouldn't like that. I respect peoples opinions as long as they are respectful of mine. Some people can be downright rude about this subject though.

I dont like unisex names at all. Boys and girls are different they have different names. They shouldnt be mixed. Even Brooklyn is now apparently a boys names too, I mean COME ON. Brooklyn is ALL GIRL!. Even with the name Ryan, I've never thought it to be a girls name. I've known at least 5 Ryans and none of them were girls. Its most definitely a boys names. I dont understand why parents do this to their kids.
