So I've been thinking about the possible nn Rue or Roo for a boy. I haven't settled on a first name yet but I'm thinking Rouen would be cute. WDYT?? It is pron. (ROO ahn) like the city in France.

So....What do you think when you hear it? Boy or Girl? Age well? Too weird??

Others Rue/Roo names ... Rupert, Rooney, Truett :\

When I see it, I think of the word 'ruin', which isn't the best connotation. That is just my opinion, though.

It's more of a masculine name to me, though I can see it going both ways.

Isn't Roo the name of the little kangaroo in Winnie the Pooh? I might be mistaken, but for some reason I think it was. How about Rune or Roone instead?

I think the name Rouen is cute, but I definately wouldn't use the nickname "Roo" for a boy. Maybe as a baby/toddler...and even a girl's nickname. It would definately age well in my opinion. It sounds kind of aristocratic and classy either way you use it. (:

The only downside to this name is that everytime I hear it, I think of Rouen as the breed of duck. :)

Reuben
Reuven

I think the nickname Roo is cute, and I can see it on an older male, although not over 20 I think. I have a friend named Reuven, he is Dutch and I call him Roo, it suits him, and it works on a teenager, although they may not like it from their parents lol. I also have someone in my college named Ruan, which is pronounced the same as Rouen. I really like the name, and I say go for it if you really want to.

Rouen looks a little...stretched by the imagination to me? A jumble of random vowels shaped like a name almost. I also agree with Zalivor on the connotation to the word "ruin". However, if you love the name, I do like the suggestion of Rune (very masculine and strong-looking as a name), and I know Rowan is similar and also more aesthetically appealing. As far as keeping the nickname Roo/Rue, I think HH's suggestion of Reuben is a nice name you don't see as often anymore and would age well. Also, I don't think Truett is that bad; it's actually pretty cute now that I look at it. However, you don't seem too impressed by it.

In the end, though, it's what reaches your heart that matters. If you like Rouen, the way it looks and sounds when written and spoken, etc, then you can always find a way to make it work.

I kinda like it, kinda dont.

it almost sounds like ruin which is pretty negative. and i can see a boy being teased for that.

but at the same time, it sounds so handsome! <3 Rue is cute while he's small, not sure how much he'd like it as an adult lol. it does sound a bit cutesy but i personally love it when guys have cutesy nick names! i always find girly nick names for male friends haha! though i dont care for Roo much myself. mum used to add it onto the last part of my name to make it even cutesyer haha!

I don't like it at all, sorry....

It reminds me of kangaroos which everyone here calls 'Roos'.. :(
But my point doesn't mean much since I live in Australia where it would have MAJOR teasing potential since were known for our kangaroos .. And you live in the States so I suppose it doesn't matter, as long as you don't plan on raising him in Oz!! :)

It sounds like a masculine name to me but to be honest when I saw it I pronounced it as Row-an. I think with that spelling he would be constantly correcting people on how to pronounce his name.
