I was shopping and a mother and her little girl were there and I heard the woman call her daughter Island a few times. At first I just thought it was one of those new abstract word names then she got frustrated and called the girl by her full name, Island Marley..... I personally think its very over the top and definitely not my style!!

What do you ladies think?!

Island is cute, but more of a boys' name.
Does not go with Marley. AT ALL.

I've hears of Irelyn, which sounds super close. I cant say I've heard of Island though. I personally love Marley though, super cute. Makes me think bob marley :) plus I just went to a coffee shop named Sweet Marlays and it was amazing<3

Yeah I really don't like it, I don't think Island makes a good name for either gender. I don't get the appeal of naming a child that.

its nms, but if its meant to be after the counrty, Ireland then i guess its the same as using London/China/ India for me. (just to clarify as im not sure with accents but Ireland and Island in Aus are pn very similarly if not the same to some people..ie Eye- r-land, and Eye-land)

I was thinking the same! When you say them both they're so alike. Maybe it was Island, but possibly it was Irelyn/Ireland. which i agree, is like London or China as a name... Idk :)

I see your point, but she clearly said Island. In the area I live people pn Ireland like Eye-eeer-land, with emphases on the er/R- sound, that's just how we talk around here and so for us it's easy to tell the difference between Island and Ireland. :) For me, Island goes with names like Ocean or Star. Though, even if it was Ireland it's still way over the top for me. :P

I know a baby named Island, but he is a boy. I like Island for a girl name, but it is not my style.
