When my husband and I found out we were expecting our second child we immediately began trying to pick a name. I had a serious gut feeling it was a girl, but until we found out we of course were considering both genders and picking boy names was EASY! Then we found out for sure it is a girl and I'm stumped. I cannot decide on anything, nothing works. It's either too serious or not serious enough. I want something with meaning but I don't want a name so ugly that you have to explain it's meaning to people just for them to approve ya know? I like unique names but I don't want something people will have trouble pronouncing or understanding... I've been through our baby name book twice and it has over 300,000 names, and i've been on this site as well as others for hours at a time and STILL... nothing. Help, i'm 23 weeks and starting to think we'll be scouring the nurse boards in a rush after labor if we don't decide soon.

Just to help - I like Ranee (Renee) for a middle name but am not dead set on it.

What names have you been considering? Are there any that you like but aren't totally sold on? It would be helpful to have a general sense of your style.

I am guessing that your son is Noah?

Here are some girls names that I think pair well with Noah...
Abigail
Eden
Emma
Emily
Lila
Lily
Annabel
Hannah
Leah
Delilah
Grace
Lydia
Rachel
Charlotte
Scarlett
Ivy
Amelia
Elizabeth
Eliza
Audrey
Tessa

Thanks yall. Yeah, my son is Noah and picking his name was EASY! I can't believe how hard picking a girl name has been. My favorite girl name so far was Mayson. It came from my husband liking the name Mason if it was a boy, but Mason means "stone worker" which of course means nothing to me and disqualifies the name BUT Maysun (Alt spelling, Mayson - and pronounced as Mason) is Arabic and means "beautiful" which i thought would be a very nice way to keep the sound my husband liked while giving the name meaning, which i needed but my husband can't get over how masculine Mayson sounds so it was out. We've discussed:
Sarah
Scarlett
Quinn
Taylor
Mayson
Alana
Peyton
Caitlin
Madelyn
Madison
Laura/Lauren
Abigail
Gabriel
and many others I can't remember right now but either the meaning wasn't "there" or we couldn't both agree on it. My husband likes what i call "standard" names - traditional names like Rebecca, Nicole, Megan, Amber... names that have been around forever and done and re done and done some more. I'm totally against those, because I had four other Megans in my math class alone in 10th grade and want my child to have something more unique and individual.

Of course it doesn't help either that for every name we come up with, there's always someone we know or knew who we associate that name with and my husband had a LOT of girlfriends lol

I agree that Mayson sounds a bit masculine for a girl. If you want to keep the meaning, though, here is a list of names that mean "beautiful":

Shiphrah
Naomi {A Japanese name, from (nao) "honest, straight" and (mi) "beautiful".}
Nava {Hebrew for Beautiful}
Calista
Mika
Mabel
Frida
Ingrid
Caoimhe

They are not your average name either, so some of those may be right up your alley.

As for your list, I really like

Sarah
Scarlett
Taylor
Caitlin
Lauren
Abigail

I agree with you about names that have been done and done in thousands different spellings and variations, which do not help at all.
If you're looking for something "normal" but not extremely popular, I'd say to go with Scarlett.

Good Luck!

Of your names I really like Sara (my sister's name) and Quinn, Abigail is nice as well.

Some of my favorite girl names that are a bit off the beaten path....

Prynn (a surname & my own invention for a girls FN)...I like this spelling because similar to Brynn but could aslo be spelled Prinn, Pryn, Prine, Prynne....The nn Prynnie, Prinny has crossed my mind. Meaning- The origin is from 'prin', a word which was introduced into England by the Normans after the 1066 invasion. 'Prin' is a 'descendant' of the Latin 'primus' meaning 'first' and it was given as a baptismal name to the first born male child of a family.

Edie (usually a nn for Edith, Edah) I like this as a stand alone FN and think it is much more elegant and unique than the similar and popular Evie. Could also be spelled Edy, like the Ice Cream. Meaning - Prosperous in War

Enola (Native American name meaning Solitary) I got it from Amelia Earhart's plane which was named the Enola Gay. I just think Enola is a pretty name.

Sidda (I got from Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood) Not sure on meaning but I like the sound.

Annagail (A name of my own invention) Similar to Abigail but a little different. Could be a double name and has several different spelling possibilities but this version is my favorite. Anna means Grace/Favor and Gail means Father in Rejoicing...so I guess you could say it means Grace in Rejoicing.
