I'm starting to really like the name Calder for a boy but our last name ends in er. Do you think that would rhyme too much or does it really matter ?

I think it depends on the balance of syllables and sounds.  In general, I think first and last names with the same endings clash, but something like Calder Forrester is preferable to Calder Cooper, if that makes sense.  So if your last name is a different number of syllables and/or has different sounds, I think it could work.  Ultimately, it's up to you and whether the repeating sounds would bother you personally.
