I'm changing a story around and I'm not sure if the name I have for this character fits her.

This is how I picture her:

Her name is, for now, Joanie. She had a rough childhood. Her parents were neglectful and abusive. She learned to take care of herself and was out on her own at a young age. She is very independent, resourceful, headstrong, generally responsible and hard-working. She is still outgoing and loves to go out. Her favorite thing to do is sing. At 17, she unwillingly gets involved in a dangerous and abusive relationship with a man named Adrian. The unstable, frightening experience lasts for 4 years until it escalades to a critical point. She runs away with her best friend, Aspen, and becomes nomadic in an attempt to escape her past.

I think Joanie would be a good nickname for her.
She is trying to run away from her past and becomes nomadic. Joanie is a really good low-profile name for that.
If you're not sure that the name fits her quite right. Joanie could be her made-up name she uses to avoid catching attention or nickname.

Full name could be for example:
Joanna
Johanna
Joanne
Joelle
Jolanda
Jolene

Good luck,

EB.

I like Joanie! It seems to fit her really well, I think! I full name may be better, I guess. Though I actually kinda think just Joanie works :P GL!

Yeah, I actually think Joanie works. It suits her and her situation and as stated in above posts, it gives her a low profile. My vote is you keep it.

Thanks for the input. I decided to keep it Joanie. That's what I see her as is a Joanie. Nothing fancy or dark or out there.
