My moms dads name was James, he went by Jim.
I never met him as he died from a heart attack when my mom was about 20, and I wasn't born until she was 38. But if I had been a boy, my name would have been James.

My mom really wants me to name my future hypothetical son James, she's always said that if I have a boy I should name him James because she loved her daddy so much and she didn't get a boy to give his name to.
Now I'm fine with the name James as a middle, I've had Lucas James / Luke James on my list for probably a year and it's always my go-to favorite boy name. But I recently asked her if she would mind if I just used it as a middle name and she said she'd rather it be a first.
I don't hate the name, but I just can't picture my son being James. I guess I can a little bit, and it's not a bad name but I'm just not sure.

He didn't have a middle name, so I can't use that instead.
What do you like better?

James ---? and call him James
Lucas James
James Lucas and call him Luke

?

I personally prefer James as a middle name (If AJ is a boy the J is for James, which will be his middle name, full being Michael James and we plan on calling him James :) ) but it's just as handsome as a first! Of your combo I think James Lucas is very very handsome! What about perhaps Jameson and calling him James? Just a thought :)

I really love the name Lucas (also the spelling Lukas ).

Lucas James gets my vote; very handsome! The flow of James Lucas seems a bit off to me...I'm thinking because James has such a soft ending and Lucas has a soft beginnging, if that makes any sense? Lol, it just doesn't roll of the tongue as well imo.

I'd stick to Lucas James :) If you don't adore the name then you shouldn't use it as a first! <3 I personally am big on naming your child what you intend on calling him, the whole calling a kid by the middle name doesn't honestly make sense to me. but thats a personal thing :P I think its sweet of you to consider using James at all, even if not as a first name! And I'm sure your mom will love it in the long run even if its not a first name <3

I like James as either a first name or a middle name. It kinda depends on the middle name or the first name that i'm pairing James with
I like the flow of James Lucas and Lucas James. I feel like they compliment each other.

James is a first name in my family but it also seems like a filler middle name to me as well. My dads name is James (and his dads and my brothers) but if I were to use it to honor my dad, I would use it as a middle name. Because I'm honestly not too fond of James as a first name myself :/
