Baby boy #2 is on his way - I adore the names Julien (JOO-LEE-EN) and Monroe (MUN-ROE) but my dear husband thinks they are too feminine... looking for some insight...

Julien is a boy name though that spelling does give it a more feminine look compared to the original spelling of Julian. Julie, Julia and Juliet being the feminine variations. Monroe could actually go both ways, I personally see it as a more male name since it fits with all the other surname favorites like Harrison, Greyson/Grayson and Sullivan, but because of Marilyn Monroe it has that feminine quality to it as well.

Julien sounds very feminine to me. I know it is a boy's name, but I guess I know to many Juliannes and Jillians that it seems very feminine. I love Monroe, however. I think it is very handsome! It would be best paired with something else that is not at all unisex, like Monroe Nicholas or Monroe Benjamin.

When I see/hear Julien I think boy. It's the French spelling. I'm surprised when I see people say It looks more feminine because a lot of popular boy names end in -en and a lot of popular girl names end in -a (but of course no opinion is wrong!). I associate Monroe with Marilyn Monroe and therefore automatically think feminine but it does sound more masculine overall.

Julien may sound somewhat feminine, but I love Monroe. It is fresh and unique.
Monroe Julien
Monroe Jackson
Monroe Talon
Monroe Levi
... there are many others, good luck :)
