I read a book series called "The Mortal Instruments" by Cassandra Clare a few years ago (but haven't had the chance to read some of the newest ones <_< ) and one of the characters, mother to the MC, was named Jocelyn Fray. That was her FN and her newly assumed surname. Thing is, I've fallen in love with it as a FN and MN combo for my GP List! Which is weird for me because even though I'm warming up to surnames (some at least) on boys, I still abhor them on girls. Not to mention Fray is a word and means "to unravel or become worn", not a good definition for a child plus I usually get aggravated at word names (that aren't classic or well established like nature names) on girls. So this combo is very much outside my usual Love Zone.

So a few things:

1.) What do you think of it in general?

2.) Should I change the spelling? Fray/Fraye/Frae/Frai?

(Not really a fan of any but Fray and (maybe) Fraye)

3.) Keep it or scrap it?

Thanks ladies!!

I read that series!!! I got to book 3, now I just need 4 & 5. I pulled Simon as a GP from there.
I like Jocelyn Fraye as a FN MN combo. The 'e' at the end of Fray makes it look more like a name to me. I would keep it as a GP and I'd still consider using it as name if I could talk my bf's into it. I'd say it's wearable because Jocelyn is a legitimate name and nobody ever really uses their middle so you can put almost anything there.

1.) What do you think of it in general?

I'm not crazy about it, mainly because I thought of the definition of fray that you mentioned. I don't think it's a bad name, though.

2.) Should I change the spelling? Fray/Fraye/Frae/Frai?

I like Fraye the best, but Fray is all right as well. Fraye seems a bit more feminine.

3.) Keep it or scrap it?

I would either scrap it and save it as a guilty pleasure, or put it as a middle name. I think lots of somewhat quirky or uncommon names like Fray work well with traditional or more common first names.
