I noticed in babynames.com that Chelsey is listed as a unisex name, but Chelsea is not. Although both are uncommonly used for boys I was surprised that one was listed as unisex over the other. Any thoughts on this?

I think that it's one of those names that is almost fully a girl name, like Kelsey, even if it maybe wasn't originally. So generally, I would figure you'd only find someone using it for a male if it was someone from another country (not familiar with our country's associations) or it was a family or culturally significant name to them. Then people will use it because it's for a reason, not just to torture the kid :)

Sooo many names were once boy names, like Tracy and Courtney and Lacey...
the different spellings I find odd, but maybe it is for a reason? Like is Chelsey the original perhaps, and Chelsea the newer spelling?

Hmm, I can't picture Chelsey on a boy, but I also can't picture a boy named Carol, and apparently that was a boys name too, so I dunno :)

But I personally dislike it haha! I can only picture a little boy getting teased... :)

Chelsea is a name that I have grown up 'knowing'. [I had a childhood friend named Chelsea] I guess Emily & Chelsea were two of the names I would always use on my baby dolls and so I can only see it on a little girl :)
I think a boy named Chelsey would be teased... because I have NEVER heard of it being used on a boy before... hmm.. its different I guess.. :)

Remy and Ash. I agree to some extent re: the potential for teasing. I am a guy with the name Chelsea, and I don't imagine a male Chelsey would be seen much differnet. That was why I was curious to see one listed as unisex and not the other. In fact I always thought the Chelsey spelling was more feminine LOL but maybe I am biased.

About how old are they Saoirse? Do you see it still as a name that can be chosen for boys or do you think it has crossed further to the girl's side?

I presonally like Chelsea/ Chelsey on a boy. But I also tend to like male names that have gone to the girls; like Shannon, Courtney, and Ashley.

One is 24 and the other is 28. Now that I think about it, I know a lot of dudes with "girl" names. I have a two guy friends named Shannon/Shannen, I know two Ashley's, I know a Courtney, a Kelly, two Kelsey's, and an Aubrey. I think it's a boring name when used for a girl, I think it is fresher as a boys name, despite the fact that it started out as a boys name. A few people on this board have slammed my love of Shannon for a boy, saying he will get teased, but my guy friends had no problems... and the people who made those comments about it were like, 16. I'm 31 hahaha. I don't need that kind of insight.

Ash-- just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it's not true. Those names started off as boys names. It doesn't mean they can't still be boys names.
