My Girl has been a favorite movie of mine since I was little and I adore the main character's name, Vada. (pronounced Vay-duh)

I have two baby name books and neither have the name listed. Of course, I found it online, but I thought I'd ask for other's opinion.

I've always had trouble finding names, girl names especially, that I adore and that aren't too popular. I've never met a Vada, the popularity chart for it went down in the 1940s, apparently. I think it's very pretty, sounds classic, could age well, and would be unique enough between all the Aubrey's and Sophia's at school. What do you think of the name? Do you have any other spelling ideas?

I like it. I probably wouldn't ever use it personally, but it's nice enough.

As for spelling, I think Vada is fine. You don't want to be complicating a perfectly fine name too much by spelling it Vayduh or something like that.

Love Vada! Love the movie as well, has some great associations. I have a friend who just had a baby girl and named her Vada but spelled it Vayda. I'm all for the classic spelling- Veda.

Good luck!

I do like it, but it reminds me a little bit of Darth Vader. Maybe that's because I haven't seen the movie.

Vada is interesting. I kinda like it. Definitely leave the spelling as is, though.

I know a 1 year old named Veda, pronounced the same way. I prefer it spelled Veda. And I love it. It's so refreshing next to all the Isabellas, Emmas, and Mias.
