I'm working on a new short story, it'll be set in a hotel for the majority of the time. However, I have no clue as to what to name this place of business. I don't want a chain-sounding hotel because it's significant to the plot that this hotel is kind of a stand-alone.

I don't have many guidelines other than it shouldn't sound too extravagant  because it isn't. It's the kind of hotel you stay at when all the major chains are booked or you just need a quick, cheap room for the night. Also, let's stay away from X Inn.

I think it's likely a small hotel could be named after the family's last name who own it, the street/town it's located near, or something historic, or something nature-related that pertains to the place it's located in.

A few ideas that come to mind...

The Grasshopper Hotel

The Pierce Hotel

The Mayflower Hotel (would fit a Southern/rural setting)

The Warner Hotel

The Coleridge Hotel

The West Wind Hotel

The Winding Tree Hotel

The Willow Hotel (I like the sound of The Willow Inn but I know you wanted to avoid that)

(With these, I imagine it wouldn't always have to be called "The __ Hotel." For example, some people might just say "the Mayflower," "the Coleridge," etc.)
