When I'm in a writers block, I put a song on repeat and try to get the same tone or idea from the song into a story. 9 times out of ten, it works wonders. Maybe when you come up with a story/theme/charcters we can help with names

I normally get my indpirations from real life events or things that I hear and then add a twist to it to make it my own.

For example, my friend has a younger sister who when she was one or so used to be really protective of her mum and wouldn't let anyone else near her. When she told me that, I developed one of my characters around that.

Try listening to some news reports, or google them. It works for me.

yeah ashooles is right, use real life and twist it to something that you can relate to. writing something with no relevance to you is just plain boring
Good luck

I'm from much further south...(GA) but my college roommate just moved to Boston in Aug...she has been trying to talk me into coming up sometime this winter...I would in a heartbeat if I had the money  ...

Anyways, to answer your other question...I often have pretty vivid, crazy & quite adventurous dreams...If I leave out the crazy stuff that doesnt really make sense I usually have a good base to build a story on.

I practically live in Boston, actually. I mean, I live on the border of southern NH, but its pretty close to Boston... I visit quite often  Why?

But My idea's, are usually of these three sources:

1. I listen to a song and base a story off it's meaning.

Like, you could use Sk8ter boi from Avril Levigne to base off a story of a girl who thinks she's too good for someone/cares too much of what her friends think so wont admit unto liking him then later see's him doing really well in life (like maybe he's a famous actor, business men, politician etc).

Or Viva La Vida from Coldplay- tell of how someone's life fell apart because of how they acted.

Or eve do Mocking Bird from Eminem, and tell the point of view of a child who's parent is suddenly gone. You can tell of how the child feels, or even of the adult dealing with the child. Or a friend of the childs...

2. I think of an experience that happened in my life that I think would make a cool story then losely base the story off of it.

Ellen Hopkins wrote a series losely based on how her child got addicted to crank. Maybe someone in your family had a fallout, and you can write about it? Even if it's more of a smaller fallout than drugs- like maybe if your family goes to church and someone stopped coming with you, or if a brother gets in trouble at school a lot.

Or just something like "I wish I was this type of girl" and write about it. Or getting picked on at school or something like that...

3. I think of a controversial issue today.

Like, I started a story today (that I need help with...) but it is about abortion. You could do something about how someone deals with this personally in their life. Or an issue like gay marriage, alcohol, genetic engineering, drug legalization, cloning, child abuse, censorship, etc!

If you use google or something you can find millions more! And it is a way that you can put out how you feel about things that are going on today in a subtle way I guess. Like, if your pro-transexual (or however you say that), you can write a story of a girl who wants to be a guy or vise versa!

Hope this helps! ~Haddie

Haddie, (is it okay if i call you that?)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I am actually visiting Boston right now because my 8 year old little sister Kylie is having her twelve surgery. But I am leaving today! We usually come twice a year. Maybe we could meet sometime! If you guys wouldn't mind having Kylie in your prayers, that would be awesome!!!

Thanks,
Ally
