In my story, a prisoner of war returns home at the end of World War II to find himself in twenty-first century America.

I don't know what to call him, maybe something old fashioned and simple? While in the twenty-first century, he meets a woman (yeah yeah, I know). She helps him adjust, and they fall in love but suddenly he's taken back to the forties. She might end up with his grandson, not sure yet.

So for names I need:

MC- something old fashioned and simple

Love interest woman- something feminine and old fashioned

Grandson- something kind of modern but honoring his grandfather

Surname suggestions would also be great.

This story sounds awesome!

I think for the POW, a friendly nickname would be cool and seem more realistic imo than a full name, ie Ned vs Edward. It would seem more accurate, at least in my experience.

Okay, so maybe the POW might go by his last name during the war, with a nickname. And before/after the war, he went by a nickname of his first name?

So you mean like if his last name was Hardison, he could go by Hardy? Or Truman nn Tru?

I quite like the idea. But I don't see any reason he couldn't keep going by the same nickname even afterwards.

(Essentially like 'James Buchanan Barnes' nn Bucky from Captain America... which is what your story made me think of)

Well, his family and friends that he knew from before are used to calling him by his first name or a nickname of that. His fellow soldiers/prisoners of war know him on a more... formal/serious basis and not as well, so they called him by his last name but with a friendly nickname. Like how Louis Zamperini's friend Phil called him Zamp.
