Everyone is different but I prefer to keep them spelled the traditional way unless you're going for a clear foreign influence or honoring someone who spelled it not in a traditional way.
For Christopher I could spell it Kristoffer in order to honor my Swedish heritage. Other than that I would keep it as the traditional spelling because with names that people recognize people assume they know the spelling and your child will constantly be correcting the spelling of a name everyone knows.

I agree with this exactly!

i prefer to spell names the way i like them the most. for example i don't see the issue with spelling kristopher rather than christopher if you prefer kristopher. i understand why other people want to keep the name strictly the way it is but in my opinion you don't NEED to do that. for example i like the names Alizabeth and Alisabeth but I do not like Elizabeth. so why would i use Elizabeth just to be "correct" if i don't like the way it looks? again this is just my opinion. I understand spelling would be a minor issue but then again... when is it not?
