Has there ever been a title of a song or movie with a name in it that made you like that name?

I will answer first...

"Jeremy" by Pearl Jam
"Joey" by Concrete Blonde
"Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney
...those are examples of songs...

Your turn! Any song or movie title with a name make you fall in looove with that name?

  • Interests:More than anything else in the world I love being with my family, which includes my amazing husband and our three gorgeous daughters. We are currently expecting number four, and are so excited! I am of course a mother first, but I am a writer second. I am a nut about names and etymology in general. I love reading; I’m a sucker for both the more modern fantasy books, like Harry Potter, and the also classics, like Shakespeare. Music is another thing that I could’ve live without, and I have to say my tastes definitely lean towards modern rock: Nickelback, Hinder, Papa Roach, and Theory of a Deadman are my very favorites. Not too big on television, but I couldn’t live without Lost. I also love cars (and driving them!), and I am the proud “mommy” of a Ford Mustang. I’m also pretty big on talking and I like to see myself as friendly, so I hope to see you around the boards!

I love this idea for a thread! :D I don't have many, but...

- Though the name isn't actually used in the title of the song, Disturbed's new one "Inside the Fire" really has me attached to the name Devon for a girl.
- My best friend named her little girl Vienna after hearing The Fray's song of the same name and falling in love with it

And my mom is also (teasingly, I think...) convinced that I should have been named Rio, after the Duran Duran song -- her favorite band, favorite song. Good thing I was born a year too early for that ;)

Helena by My Chemical Romance, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's, Elizabeth by Team Sleep, and that's all I can think off of the top of my head.

Yeah, I like those bands.

I never even thought of Iris, I love it too! The Goo Goo Dolls are one of my favorite bands ;)

PS: Don't be embarrassed! My three favorite bands are Nickelback, Hinder and Papa Roach  I've been called weird a few times!

Ooh I like Nickelback too! And there are a couple of Papa Roach songs I like too. But my absolute favourites are Placebo (my husband is constantly teasing me about how I'd leave him for Brian Molko any day), Korn and Linkin Park. And some The Smashing Pumpkins too. I used to like Limp Bizkit as well, but they became too comercial. And Within Temptation's great too.

Which reminds me, there's a WT song titled Jillian. Great song, great name
And a Smashing Pumpkins one, 'Ava Adore'. I sort of like Ava, but it's not amongst my favourites.

Ohh, I really love Korn and Linkin Park as well! Glad to see I'm not the only one with such tastes ;) Placebo's great too, they have this one song I really really like... too bad I can't remember the name off the top of my head

We're sort of spamming this thread, but... I can't resist, is it a relatively new song or is it one of the oldies? If you give me the lyrics I'm pretty sure I'll be able to tell you the name (heck, I have even got lots of b-sides from questionable sources).

Just found it on my iPod! It's "Infra-Red". I love it  And go you for having b-sides, even if they're from questionable sources :D

Sally from Mustang Sally by any number of the people who've done this song
Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls

Ok...Um...That's it, I think...

Now that you mentioned Sally, it reminded me of the song 'I Miss You' by Blink-182, there's a line that goes 'We can live like Jack and Sally if we want', in reference to Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I like both names.

Thanks, Danni! I was feeling old for the examples that initially came to mind! The 60's came up with some memorable songs but also ruined a crop of names for a generation, I'm afraid.

Good Golly, Miss Molly
Lucy in the Sky
Judy in Disguise
Mustang Sally
Oh, Donna
Sherry-Baby
Bernadette
Peggy Sue
Suzie Q
Barbara Anne
Hit the Road, Jack
Judy's turn to cry (that name might be gone for awhile form the top 20)

And my poor mother, terribly shy as a kid, had to endure her name chorussed in every genra, from Christmas services to rock 'n roll. G-L-O-R-I-A!

I like Iris Johansen, Karen Marie Moning, Stephen King, James Patterson, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Diana Gabaldon, Kathy Reichs, and Robert Burns (every Scot's favorite author). I really love music and even got accepted to the Mason Gross School of Performing Arts at Rutgers University (my alma mater) for vocal performance. Unfortunately performance life was not for me, so I went into English Lit and French instead. Music is still a big part of my life, and I like a multitude of musical genres from Reggae to Rock to Opera. I've seen Carmen and La bohème each twice. (And I cry every time.) My husband and I also have a special place in our hearts for The Beatles.

I like Lizzie from Dizzy Miss Lizzie and Michelleby The Beatles. *sigh* What can I say, they're inspirational.
