I've been watching a ton of kids' cooking competitions and these names (the contestants' names) come from the Australian version of Junior Masterchef.  What do you think of them?

Girls:

Tayla - Trendy and just odd, like the parents were trying to spell Taylor but didn't know how to.  Either way, nothing girly about it so not my style.

Isabella (twin to Sofia) - Boring and trendy.  I like Isabelle better.

Siena - Pretty.   I would spell it with 2 N's.

Sofia (twin to Isabella) -  Pretty but really popular.

Lucy - Not a fan, but as a nickname for Lucia or Luciana, I don't mind it so much.

Sophie (times 2) - Beautiful, but too common.

Ainsleigh - I kind of like it, but hate the spelling.  Ainsley is the proper spelling and I can tolerate Ansley, but anything else makes you look like you're trying too hard.

Cassidy - Okay, but I prefer Cassandra or Cassia.  I love the nickname Cassie.

Te Ani (Tay-Ah-nee or something close to that.  She is Maori and I'm not familiar with the language.  I'm just going by what I heard) - I like Ani as a nickname, but I'm not sure about the whole name together.

Ashley - I prefer it for a boy.

Emily - Pretty, but common.  It's been falling in popularity the last few years though.

Greta - Gorgeous!  It's been growing on me a lot over the last year or two and now I really love it.

Alysha (Ah-LEE-sha) - Not a fan of it.  I would spell it Alicia, but I find it a bit dated now.

Indigo - Not a fan.  I don't really care for girls' names ending in O and dislike most colors as names.

Lily - Beautiful, but very popular.  I love Lilia though.  It's a nice alternative to just Lily or Lillian.  Those are great, I just prefer something a bit different.

Madi - Don't like it at all.  It's a nickname and I strongly dislike it and most -mad names in general.  I like Madeleine and Magdalena, but still would never shorten them to Maddie/Madi.

Gracie - Not a fan.  I don't like nicknames as full names very much and I dislike Grace because it almost sounds like "grease" when I say it.

Jade - Not crazy about it, but it is a lot better with this spelling than Jayde which I think is horrible.

Caroline - Beautiful!

Miraede (Ma-RAID.  Sounds similar to the Irish name Mairead) - The spelling is odd and makes no sense phonetically.  I also think that some English speakers may have trouble with it.  I admit I had trouble trying to pronounce her name when i first saw her name tag, and then the judges cleared it up for us.  It's a decent name other than that.

Aya (EYE-ah) - Pretty.  I love it.  Very exotic, but familiar at the same time.  People might mistake it for Maya or maybe Ava though.

Hannah - Pretty, just a bit plain.

Favorites:  Greta, Caroline, Siena, Aya, Hannah, Lily

Boys:

Nick - As a nickname for Nicholas, it's okay.  I personally prefer Nico/Niko.

Harry - Can't shake the HP association or the fact that I had a mean substitute teacher with this name.

Pierre - Okay.  It's a good name, but not something I'd choose.

Clarence - Okay.  I'm starting to warm up to it.

Sam - As a nickname for Samuel, it's great.  On its own, not so much.

Anthony - Great, just a bit boring.  I prefer Antonio or Anton.

Alex - Yet another nickname (I don't know if that's his full name or it's short for something.  It's never explained).  Otherwise, nothing wrong with it.  It's a classic.

Jack (x2) - Good name, but overused.

Chandler - Not a fan.

Kieren -  I prefer the Kieran or Ciaran spelling, but I like the name.

Steven - Great name.

Daniel - Handsome! Just wish it wasn't so common.

Marcus - Like it.

Tom - As a nickname for Thomas, it's nice, but not on its own.

Zac - Love as a nickname for Zachary.

Dee - Not a fan.

Favorites: Daniel, Kieran/Ciaran (spelled correctly), Marcus, Anthony, Steven
