My husband and I have a disagreement. Well, actually, when it comes to baby names, it doesn't seem that we can agree on anyting. Anyway...I think that Julian is a boy's name. My husband says he thinks it sounds like a girl name. What do you think? Does it sound girlie?

If it matters, I like Julian Beckett.

It is a boy name, no question about that.
And even though I *LOVE* it, I can see your husband's point.

Julian does have a musical ring to it that may come across as feminine -- it lacks the "harsh" sound or bad boy attribute that usually make people consider a name masculine.
We also have to consider that the sound is almost precisely identical as "Julienne", which is a girl name and the epitome of feminine.
So that may be why!

PS. I myself love Julian Ezra.

Julian is a boys name...however Juliann(e) with emphasis on the ANN is a girls name that I adore! :)

I like both but I like Juliann just a little bit more so I would never be able to use Julian.

If you like Julian and the hubby doesnt approve. What about Jude?

My boyfriend and I had the same argument. Julian is easily my favorite boys name ever! My boyfriend vetoed it saying that it sounds feminine. I love it's soft, romantic feel... my boyfriend does not.

Julian Beckett is very handsome!

It's definitely a boys name. Juliann(e) would be a girls name, but they're said differently :)

Julian Beckett is very handsome!

Maybe you could talk to him about it being a middle name?

Definitely a boy name, though I see how he could think it's girly because of Julianne. It's kind of like Adrian and Adrienne. I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. I don't think it will be much of a problem because on paper it is definitely male. I'd worry more if you liked Ryan, Mason, or Noah, which are quickly heading towards unisex. :) Anyway, Julian Beckett is wonderful, it definitely gets two thumbs up from me :)

Julian Beckett is very handsome btw.

I wouldn't use Julian on a girl, instead Juliette/Juliet, Julia or Julie are cute variations on a girl.

Funny that you say this, Jude was at the top of our boy name list forever! I started to get tired of it because I talked about it so much, but now I'm thinking about it again. We love J names because my husbands name starts with 'J'.

Thanks for all the feeback everyone! Glad you like Julian Beckett!

Well I think it could be both but it sounds like more of a girl's name instead of a guy's name.
