One of the stories that I am working on at the moment is about a small town football team. A lot of you helped me pick out names for the characters, and I need a little more help. One of the main characters is the wide receiver. His mother Joanne died when he was pretty young, leaving him with only his father, Billy and his older sister, Sadie. His father is mean and abusive and all he cares about is football and making sure his son is perfect in every game. Billy remarried the much younger Jessi Lyn, who tries to connect with her step children, but as she is closer to their age than their father's, it doesn't work. He is a bit of a "player" and heartbreaker, not to mention the bad boy of the team. He is extremely loyal to his best friends on the team Casey Malone, Jason Prior and Tj Nash, and his best friends off the team, Ally Prior and Kristi Bennet. He is extremely close to his sister, calls her every night (she's at college) and he goes to see his mother's grave every Sunday. He's a good guy who's been given a bad hand and has trouble making the best of it.

Now I picked out what I think is the perfect name for him: Scottie Baldwin. It has the right feeling for him. It sounds very All-American, like a football player, etc. It also has a young/innocent feeling that I like. Now for the problem. I was telling my mom about it and she informed me that Scott Baldwin is a character on General Hospital, and a very well known character.

Should I still use the name even though it is already well known for a different character?? Any other name ideas? The only other one I have is Kenny Montgomery.

Thanks so much!!

Dani

haha! I thought of Scott Baldwin from GH too!

Sorry, my mom and I are big fans...

I think you could be able to use it. Especially if he goes by Scottie and not Scott. Only GH fans would know anyway. :D

If it makes you feel any better I've never heard of him. But Billy Baldwin is an actor...one of the Baldwin brothers, so maybe if you kept Billy and Scottie and just changed their last name that would be okay. What about Ericson...Scottie Ericson, Billy Ericson and Sadie Ericson.

I like both but there is just something about Kenny Montgomery but then again I really like southern sounding names usually :D

I've never heard of Scott Baldwin, either. I like your names and think you should just change the last name.

Boo... I was hoping I could get away with it. I wasn't that worried about the Billy Baldwin connection because he isn't a main character and he's mostly called Billy, so I doubt his full name would ever be said. Scottie, on the other hand...

I do really love the last name Baldwin, but I suppose I could come up with a new last name for Billy, Scottie, Sadie, Jessi Lyn and Buddy (Billy and Jessi's son who is born during the story).

Any last name ideas? Something really All-American sounding? I like Montgomery, but that's all I can come up with.

On the flip side, any name ideas instead of Scottie? I like Kenny, Tommy, Joey... but again, nothing I love.

Thanks so much everyone!

Dani
