I have always wanted to name someone either Melvin/ Melvyn or Allan/ Alan, so i was wondering which name you think is better and which spelling?

I prefer Allen over Melvin, and the spelling that I like best is Allen.

I love Alan as a FN or MN, but Allen/Allan as a surname.  Melvin is too old-fashioned for my taste.  Melvyn just looks trashy.  I'd go with Alan because it's simple and classic.
