My name is Nicola 'Nicki' Rosalind Harris.
I am 22 years old and I have just graduated from Princeton University with a degree in History.
I've always wanted to travel the world, and as a graduation gift my parents have surprised me with a year-long trip around the world!
They've even arranged for my best friend, Arabella 'Ari' Eleanor Martin, to come along with me.
 
The first country we visit is Italy.
We spend four weeks taking gondola tours of Venice, visiting art museums and indulging in cups of gelato.
One day, when we're eating at our favourite restaurant, Ari starts making eyes at an attractive waiter named Raphael 'Raph' Riccardo Ferrari.
When it's time to leave, Raph's shift is over and he walks us back to our hotel. Ari and Raph have really hit it off and they exchange numbers.
They begin dating, and Raph tells us that he's planning on moving to Holland soon.
Ari is really into this guy, so the two of us decide that Holland might as well be our next stop too!
A few weeks later, the three of us travel to Holland.
We are excited to see what experiences this new country will bring us!

Raph gets a job as a manager at a restaurant, and we begin exploring our new home.
For the next three months we visit the Anne Frank house, sail down the canals of Amsterdam and sample cheeses, wines and herbs throughout the city.
 
Ari and Raph begin spending more and more time alone, and I start to feel lonely.
After a few weeks of touring the country mostly on my own, Ari suddenly announces that Raph has proposed!
I'm shocked, as they haven't known each other for very long, but Ari is delighted.
She gets a job at the restaurant he is managing.
 
After talking to Ari, Raph and my parents, I decide to carry on travelling alone whilst Ari and Raph decide to prepare their wedding and life together in Holland.
I'm nervous about travelling alone, but excited nonetheless.
After spending three months in Holland, I'm off to Switzerland!
 
My first stop when I get to Switzerland is the Rhine Falls, something I've always wanted to see.
I meet another American there named Marcus 'Marc' William Woodward.
He is a recent graduate of Purdue University, having majored in Physics.
He's also touring the world before going back home and settling down.
 
Marc and I hit if off, and spend the next two months travelling through Switzerland together.
He invites me to go with him to his next destination, Sweden.
I happily agree. It's nice to travel with someone!

We've become very close over the past couple of months, and we have a lot in common.
 
Whilst dining at our hotel after a day at the Royal Swedish Opera, Marc tells me that he loves me!
I can't believe he returns my feelings! I thought we'd only have a few more weeks together before we moved on.
We happily send the next few weeks together, before travelling back to Holland for Raph and Ari's wedding.
 
I'm so happy to see Ari again, and I've already agreed to be her maid of honour. 
We go shopping to pick out a dress and bouquet for Ari almost as soon as I land.
 
Raph and Ari are married in a small ceremony, which her parents fly over to Holland for.
Seeing Ari with her parents makes me home sick, and Marc and I decide to return home after the wedding.
Marc goes back to Indiana, and I return home to New Jersey.
 
 
 
I'm thrilled to see my parents again, but miss Marc from almost the moment I get on the plane in Holland.
Marc and I keep in contact through phone calls, video chats and text messages, but it's not enough.
 
A couple of months later, we both manage to find jobs in Madison, Wisconsin.
My parents are sad that I'm leaving home again so soon after returning, but at least we'll be in the same country now!
I'll be working as a Historical Documentary Editor, and Marc as an Astronomer.
 
A few days before we get the keys to our new apartment, Ari calls me and tells me she's pregnant!
She asks me to be the godmother, and I'm so excited!
Marc and I settle into life in our new apartment, and we're so happy to be together again.

Dear Diary,

 

     It's Isobel again. Isobel Hero Blankenship. It's been a while since I've written in here. 4 years, to be exact. Last time I wrote in here, I was a brand new freshman. I've now graduated from the University of Chicago, and after switching my major just about 500 times, I have a degree in Philosophy.

     I've decided to take a year off from normal life just to breathe, the last stage of my life has been a whirlwind. My parents have graced me by funding a trip around the world. I'm elated for the adventure. And to top it all off, they're letting me bring my best friend since sophomore year, Mirabel Martha Fitzpatrick.

     We've been packing together, it's been fun finding the perfect things. We leave tomorrow morning for Brisbane, Australia, 6:00 AM sharp, so I should be getting to bed.

Friday Night, 9:04 PM

 

Dear Diary,

 

       Australia has been a blast. We've traveled around a bit. Our first day in Brisbane, we went to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where we got to hold koalas. It ended short, though, because one of the koalas bit Mirabel's finger and we had to take her to the hospital. She's alright, a couple of stitches did the trick. The next day, we took it easy and strolled through the botanical gardens. Next, we took a flight to Sydney and saw the opera house. We spent a day at Bondi Beach where we took surfing lessons. Not to brag, but I'm kind of a natural...   After that, we went to Melbourne. We took a hot air balloon ride over the Yarra Valley and it was absolutely breathtaking. For dinner that night, we decided to go for some good ole Australian Barbecue. I was excited to try it, but Mira was a bit skeptical. We both ended up really liking it, though! Halfway through dinner, I saw a handsome waiter guy making eyes at M, and she was making eyes back. He came over to our table and introduced himself as Harrison Joseph Kelly. He was super sweet, very gentlemanly. He and Mirabel really hit it off, and Harrison decided to walk us back to our hotel. We (well, mostly Mirabel) told him about our year of travel and he told us he's moving to China next month. He dropped us off, told us goodnight, and gave Mirabel his number. When we got back into our room, Mira and I decided we'd travel to China next. She said she's pretty serious about Harrison, even though she'd only known him a few hours. We hung out with around breakfast time this morning and we're set to hang out with him tomorrow as well.

      Mirabel, Harrison, and I are about to board a flight to Beijing, China! We're so excited for what is to come. I know there are so many adventures on the other side of this flight!

Wednesday Evening, 5:08

 

Dear Diary,

 

   China is so much fun. I've never eaten so much lo mein in my life. 

Our first stop here was this lovely village 2 hours north of Beijing called Mutianyu. From there, we could climb on a large section of the Great Wall of China. My favorite part was the GIANT alpine slide down from the wall. We then headed back to Beijing and did some pretty great shopping, I got the most awesome pair of Converse, they're sky blue. Mirabel found a nice pair of sunglasses and this adorable necklace with an elephant on it.

    In Beijing, we got to look at all of the buildings from the Olympics here last summer. Pretty amazing. I'm thinking of all of the great and legendary athletes that walked in that very place!

     Next, we headed to Xian where we saw the ancient Terracotta Warriors. I was always fascinated with the story of them in History class growing up, and now I can say that I've seen them with my own eyes!

     After that, we took a train to Shanghai. We've had lots of fun here, we toured the Yu Gardens and all of the neat museums in the city. We went to the aquarium one day and saw some pretty crazy looking fish. They let Harrison throw food in to the sharks! We spent a day at Disneyland here, it was fun. We enjoyed finding out the differences between Disneyland here and the one back where I grew up in California.

    Harrison proposed to Mirabel last week. It seems really sudden, but I'm excited for them! She can't wait to become Mrs. Kelly. I've talked with my parents and decided to continue my tour around the world on my own, leaving Mira here to plan her wedding and new life with her fiance. I'm a little nervous to be travelling all alone, but excited. I head out for Moscow, Russia in three days.

Friday Night, 11:58 PM

 

Dear Diary,

 

   This morning while grabbing coffee at a nice cafe here in Moscow right across from the Kremlin, I met a man named Hudson Philip Beardsley. He's an American, a recent graduate of William and Mary (where my big brother, James, went) with a master's degree in Physics. He let me pick his brain about all of my crazy questions about why things are the way they are, and he gave smart (or at least smart-sounding) scientific answers to them without laughing at me too much. That right there proves he's a nice guy. He's touring around the world before settling down just like I am, so we had a lot to talk about. We ended up talking for a few hours, and then he bought me lunch. He asked me on a whim if I want to take a train to St. Petersberg with him, and I said yes, crazy me. We leave tomorrow.

Monday Evening, 6:00 PM

 

Dear Diary,

 

    Hudson and I have been travelling around Russia. In St. Petersburg, we walked around the Hermitage for a day. We spent a few days seeing more cathedrals that I could possibly count. The architecture here is stunning. We spent a few days staying in a cabin at Lake Baikal, it was gorgeous, so serene. It made for some nice hiking, though I didn't have any of the proper attire or gear for it. We rode on the Trans-Siberian railway among many other things. It has been so much fun. 

    He (and by he, I mean Hudson) asked me to join him in his travels. I couldn't be more stoked. He's so handsome and sweet, not to mention incredibly intelligent. It's nice to have a companion.

   I talked to Mirabel on the phone yesterday, she and Harrison have set 10 December as their wedding date. They'll be having their wedding back in Australia where Harrison's family is, and Mira's parents are flying in. She wants me to fly in as well, I'm just hoping it will work out. It has been a while. I'm not so good at updating, am I? I have a lot to catch you up on.

      Harrison and Mirabel were married in December, they're living in Iceland now. They have a healthy and happy baby boy, a honeymoon baby. I'm his godmother! They named him Stefan Gabriel Kelly. I've only seen pictures, but he is absolutely adorable. He is two weeks old today. I can't wait to meet him in person.

      I'm back in California with my parents. Hudson and I have a long-distance relationship. It's been tough being apart, I miss him like crazy, but we're making due. He flew in to LAX last month and popped the question! We're getting married! Next week, actually. Here in LA. 

    After that, we're moving to Concord, Conneticut where he'll be an Astronomer at a great institution. With his job, I don't really have to work, but I've chosen to do so part time with the Environmental Protection Agency. 

   Can't wait to start this new chapter in my life.

After the wedding, I say goodbye to Bella and Sunan, and Levi and I fly back to the U.S.  Saying goodbye to him is hard, as he flies back to Massachusetts and I to Arizona, but we promise to keep in touch.  My parents and I are so happy to be reunited, and I tell them all about my year abroad.  Adjusting back to my life in the U.S. is a little hard at first, but I'm happy to be back home.  Still, I miss Levi.  We keep in touch through text messages, phone calls, and video chats.  We talk about moving to a new city in the U.S. together, and after a few months, I find a job as a budget analyst and Levi finds a job as a lobbyist in Augusta, Maine.  

 

When I tell my parents the news, they are a bit disappointed, seeing as I just got back home to them after months away.  But they are proud of me for finding a great job in a beautiful city, and they are pleased I've met such a wonderful guy.  Plus, even though Arizona and Maine are far away, they won't have to fly to a whole other country to visit me!

My name is Emmeline Aurelia Crawford.
I am 22 years old and I have just graduated from Vassar College with a degree in English Literature.
I've always wanted to travel the world, and as a graduation gift my parents have surprised me with a year-long trip around the world!
They've even arranged for my best friend, Corabelle Madison Middleton, to come along with me.
 
The first country we visit is France.
We spend four weeks climbing up the Eiffel Tower, admiring the art in The Louvre, and tasting wine at vineyards along the coast.
One day, when we're eating at our favorite restaurant, Corabelle starts making eyes at an attractive waiter named Olivier Valentin Theroux.
When it's time to leave, Olivier's shift is over and he walks us back to our hotel. Corabelle and Olivier have really hit it off and they exchange numbers.
They begin dating, and Olivier tells us that he's planning on moving to Denmark soon.
Corabelle is really into this guy, so the two of us decide that Denmark might as well be our next stop too!
A few weeks later, the three of us travel to Denmark.
We are excited to see what experiences this new country will bring us!

Corabelle, Olivier and I finally arrive in Denmark.
Olivier gets a job as a manager at a restaurant, and we begin exploring our new home.
For the next three months we sail on an actual viking ship, tour castles and cathedrals and eat delicious custards.

Corabelle and Olivier begin spending more and more time alone, and I start to feel lonely.
After a few weeks of touring the country mostly on my own, Corabelle suddenly announces that Olivier has proposed!
I'm shocked, as they haven't known each other for very long, but Corabelle is delighted.
She gets a job at the restaurant he is managing.

After talking to Corabelle, Olivier and my parents, I decide to carry on travelling alone whilst Corabelle and Olivier decide to prepare their wedding and life together in Denmark.
I'm nervous about traveling alone, but excited nonetheless.
After spending three months in Denmark, I'm off to New Zealand!

My first stop when I get to New Zealand is the Lake Wanaka, something I've always wanted to see.
I meet another American there named Hudson Nathaniel Sinclair.
He is a recent graduate of Boston College, having majored in Classics.
He's also touring the world before going back home and settling down.

Hudson and I hit if off, and spend the next two months traveling through New Zealand together.
He invites me to go with him to his next destination, Sweden.
I happily agree. It's nice to travel with someone!

Hudson and I are delighted to be in Sweden!
We've become very close over the past couple of months, and we have a lot in common.
 
Whilst dining at our hotel after a day at the Royal Swedish Opera, Hudson tells me that he loves me!
I can't believe he returns my feelings! I thought we'd only have a few more weeks together before we moved on.
We happily send the next few weeks together, before traveling back to Denmark for Olivier and Corabelle's wedding.
 
I'm so happy to see Corabelle again, and I've already agreed to be her maid of honour. 
We go shopping to pick out a dress and bouquet for Corablle almost as soon as I land.
 
Olivier and Corabelle are married in a small ceremony, which her parents fly over to Denmark for.
Seeing Corabelle with her parents makes me home sick, and Hudson and I decide to return home after the wedding.
Hudson goes back to Massachusetts, and I return home to New York.
 
 
 
I'm thrilled to see my parents again, but miss Hudson from almost the moment I get on the plane in Denmark.
Hudson and I keep in contact through phone calls, video chats and text messages, but it's not enough.
 
A couple of months later, we both manage to find jobs in Providence, Rhode Island.
My parents are sad that I'm leaving home again so soon after returning, but at least we'll be in the same country now!
I'll be working as a Literary Editor, and Hudson as an Museum Curator.
 
A few days before we get the keys to our new apartment, Corabelle calls me and tells me she's pregnant!
She asks me to be the godmother, and I'm so excited!
Hudson and I settle into life in our new apartment, and we're so happy to be together again.
 
Corabelle and I are still in frequent contact, and she asks me for some name suggestions. 
She doesn't want her baby to feel out of place in Denmark, and Olivier wants the middle name to be French.
She finally settles on Ingrid Lucienne Theroux. I can't wait to meet her!

Anna seems excited, however, and gets a job as a waitress at Remi's restaurant.

 

After talking it over with both Anna and your parents, you decide to travel on alone while Anna and Remi prepare for their wedding and life together in Ireland.  You are nervous about embarking to a new country on your own, but you're excited to explore a new place.  After spending a total of three months in Ireland, you decide to travel to Costa Rica.

 

You arrive in Costa Rica and begin sight-seeing.  While visiting Chirripó National Park, you meet another American named Hudson Matthew Trafford.  He is a recent graduate of Whitman College, having majored in Film Studies, and is also touring the world before getting a job and settling down in the States.

 

You and Hudson hit it off and travel throughout Costa Rica together.  After two months, he invites you to travel with him to his next destination, Austria.  You agree, happy to have found a new travel companion.

 

You and Hudson are excited to be in Austria!  The two of you have become very close over the past few months.  You're amazed at how similar you two are, and you both end up telling each other almost everything about yourselves.

 

One evening, after a day of visiting the Hofburg Palace, Hudson confesses that he loves you.  You admit to him that you love him too.  The next few weeks are filled with bliss as you two explore Austria.

 

You've been traveling the world for 9 months now, meaning your year of travel will be coming to a close soon.  You have just enough time to revisit Ireland for Anna and Remi's wedding!  You invite Hudson to join you before heading back to the U.S., and he agrees.

 

You and Anna are so happy to be reunited.  As her maid of honor, you help your friend pick out a wedding dress and bouquet.  Anna and Remi are married in a small ceremony.  Anna's parents visit Ireland for the occasion, and seeing your friend with her parents makes you homesick for your own family.  After the wedding, you congratulate the happy couple, and you and Hudson fly back home to America, you to New York and he to Washington.

 

You're thrilled to see your parents again, but you can't help but miss Hudson as you adjust to your old life in the United States after a year of travel.  You and Hudson keep in touch through phone calls, video chats, and text messages.  You two are still in love and dream of moving to a new city and starting new lives together.

 

After a few months of planning, you both find jobs in Augusta, Maine - you as a Environmental Protection Agency Correspondant and Hudson as a Film Critic.  Your parents are sad to see you jet off again, since you just got back from a year of being away.  Still, they are happy you've found a job and a man you love, and they know that they can visit you much more easily, seeing as you'll be in the same country!

 

One day, as you're packing up and preparing for your move, you get a phone call from Anna - she's pregnant and wants you to be the godmother!  She asks you to be the godmother and you happily accept the offer.

 

You and Hudson finally move to Augusta.  You each find your own apartment in the city and love your new jobs.  You spend your spare time together, getting dinner, having movie nights, or simply talking.  You're so happy to have him in your life.

 

As the months pass, you are in frequent contact with Anna, who has asked you to help name her baby.  She wants the baby's first name to fit in well with the other kids of Ireland, and Remi wants the baby's middle name to be familiar in France to honor his heritage.

 

Your goddaughter is finally born!  She is healthy, and his/her parents are proud.  You can't wait to meet Juno Marguerite Baine in person someday!

Went on year long trip with BFF Mirabel Honor Graham payed for by parents.

The first country my friend and I visited was Brazil. We spent 4 weeks relaxing on the beach, hiking through the Amazon, and eating Crème de Papaya. One day when we were just eating at our favourite restaurant, Miri started making eyes at an attractive waiter named Rafael (Lucas) Castro. When we left the restaurant, Rafael's shift was over and he escorted us back to the hotel. Miri and Rafael seemed to really hit it off and they exchanged numbers. They started seeing each other and Rafael told us that he was planning on moving to Greece within the next month or so. Miri was really in to him, so we decided that the next place we would visit would be Greece too! Within the month, we traveled to Greece. 

When Miri, Rafael and I finally arrived in Greece, Rafael got a job as a manager at a restaurant and we began to explore our new home. The next three months consisted of visiting ancient temples, lounging on the beaches and indulging in baklava. Miri and Rafael began spending more and more time alone and I started to feel lonely and left out. After a few weeks of touring Greece mostly on my own, Miri announced that Rafael had proposed! I was surprised as they hadn't known each other for very long.. but Miri seemed excited, and ended up getting a job as a waitress at the same restaurant Rafael managed. After talking it over with them both (and my parents), I decided to travel on alone while the other two prepared for their wedding and their life together in Greece. I was nervous about embarking to a new country on my own,but I was excited to start exploring a new place! After spending three months in Greece, I decided to travel to New Zealand.

I arrived in New Zealand and immediately began sight-seeing. While visiting Lake Wanaka, I met another American named Carter (Julian) Sheppard. He was a recent Dartmouth graduate, having majored in psychology. He was also touring the world before getting a job and settling down back home. Carter and I hit it off and traveled throughout New Zealand together. After 2 months, he invited me to travel with him to Israel. I agreed as I was happy to have found a new travel companion!

 

Carter and I were excited to be in Israel. We had become very close over the past few months. I was amazed at how similar we both were and we ended up telling each other almost everything about ourselves! One evening, after a day of visiting the sea of Galilee, Carter told me he loved me. I had to admit that I was falling for him too. The next few weeks were filled with bliss as we explored the rest of Israel. We'd been traveling the world for nine months, and our year abroad was coming to a close. I had just enough time to revisit Greece for Miri and Rafael's wedding! I invited Carter to join me before heading back to the U.S. and he agreed. Miri and I were so happy to be reunited.
