Names you can't use because of bad connotations?? Like, Jezebel...Bad, bad lady...But I thought it was pretty. Still can't use it, though.

I like Iris Johansen, Karen Marie Moning, Stephen King, James Patterson, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Diana Gabaldon, Kathy Reichs, and Robert Burns (every Scot's favorite author). I really love music and even got accepted to the Mason Gross School of Performing Arts at Rutgers University (my alma mater) for vocal performance. Unfortunately performance life was not for me, so I went into English Lit and French instead. Music is still a big part of my life, and I like a multitude of musical genres from Reggae to Rock to Opera. I've seen Carmen and La bohème each twice. (And I cry every time.) My husband and I also have a special place in our hearts for The Beatles.

Delilah... pretty much for the same reason as Jezebel. I'd feel like I was naming my child a wh_re. Ya know?

Yeah, but Delilah IS pretty, too. Of course, Delilah is a lot more accepted than Jezebel...There is the song "Hey There Delilah" that might make people like it more...

Yes, but most of the public doesn't makes the connection that the Delilah in the song is actually a str_pper. Though I don't know of many church-goers who would feel comfortable naming their daughter that. I can just imagine the Christening. *shivers* Not a position I'd like to be put in. The priest would probably give me the Evil Eye.

lol...I can just imagine a priest giving someone the evil eye...lol. But yeah, I never knew that...I don't pay much attention sometimes, though. But people do seem to like the name more now than they might have before...Oh well, cross Jezebel and Delilah off any list anyone might have. I already crossed Jezebel out in my baby name book...

Oh, and there's Guinevere...The queen of Arthurian legends...I actually like it, but I saw someone did it once in a poll and people kept bringing up the connection to the cheating queen to King Arthur.

I also wouldn't use the name Taryn. There was this girl I grew up with named Taryn. She was the most horrid snob in high school. It's scary to think we were actually friends until about the 7th grade or so.

Yeah...I could never do Sarah Beth because of someone I once knew...Of course, I know quite a few Sarah's who are mean, so I wouldn't even use Sarah by itself...

And no more Michaels or Britneys...Jackson and Spears have ruined them...

Oh, and there's Guinevere...people kept bringing up the connection to the cheating queen to King Arthur.

Grr! That irritates me to no end. That's only 1 of the versions of the story. Plus, it's chivalric literature! What do people expect? It's all supposed to be about a knight or a bard who falls in love with a married woman above his social station. They all have affairs, get caught by the husband who's been cuckolded, and there's always some sort of duel. Moral is, women shouldn't cheat on their powerful husbands. But these were often marriages that were based on land and title gain, not on love. In the aristocracy, people could have been married by the time they were 7 (generally they didn't move-in together until the girl hit puberty), but still they really didn't have a choice. It's irrational to use the Medieval perspective of a character only known only through legends, when said perspective is highly prejudicial against all women.

Ursula and Ariel names I can't/wouldn't want to use because they make me think of The Little Mermaid. My sister made me watch that so many times when I was little that I can't stand it or any of the characters' names.

I actually have a cousin named Michael Jackson. Seriously. I don't know what my aunt was thinking! He is fourteen and (from what he says) he doesn't get teased at all. He sort of has an attitude like "Yeah, so that's my name, but whatever, I won't let it bug me." Which is very good. I could never use the name Lacey (which is a name I loooved for awhile) because of the girl named Lacey on Rock of Love season 1. Many other names, but none I can think of at the moment....

I love reading; I’m a sucker for both the more modern fantasy books, like Harry Potter, and the also classics, like Shakespeare. Music is another thing that I could’ve live without, and I have to say my tastes definitely lean towards modern rock: Nickelback, Hinder, Papa Roach, and Theory of a Deadman are my very favorites. I come from a devoutly Christian family and, though I do think both Jezebel and Delilah are very pretty -- especially the first -- I can only imagine how my family would react. Ironically, I was also teased mercilessly by a girl named Sarah throughout elementary school and that's pretty much turned me off of the name for good.

I actually like Avril but could never use it because of the singer. Morgana (and the combo Morgana Fay) is another example - evil Arthurian character. I usually don't mind the evil characters though, sooner or later they end up becoming my favourites! Bizarre much?

I was actually thinking just this morning how much I loved the name Avril, but would never use it because of Avril Lavigne. I really do like Morgana Fay though, it sounds lovely! And don't worry about being bizarre, I've always been a bit of a sucker for the evil characters myself :D I must have been the only little girl in school who always rooted for the wolf over little Red Riding Hood and/or the three pigs.

I was the only one who though the evil queen had a good reason for wanting to get rid of Snow White! And 90% of the time I can't stand happy endings in stories (other than fairytales) or films. Really, it's so predictable and cliché.

I really like the name Dresden for a little girl, but I don't think I could use it because of it's historical significance. I also think Bellatrix is very pretty, and though I would never use it purely because of how unusual it is, if I DID use it, I would constantly be reminded of Bellatrix from Harry Potter (yes, my world does come close to revolving around Harry Potter) and I would never want to associate my daughter with her.

Cosette,Corvette...all of these remind me of poll dancers
Also, one of my favourites would be Lolita.I loved the movie by Kubrick and the book and I know a lovely baby girl nicknamed Lolita (in Brazil younger people barely know about the bad connotations of the name)
