I was talking to my friend and she mention how she disliked Emily, but then said how Emma-lay sounded pretty.

Then I decided, wow, I think that sounds pretty!

But how would you spell it?

She said that she thinks it'd be spelled Emmaleigh, being leigh makes the Lay sound sometimes. I know lei does also, so Emalei? Emilei? Those look awkward... as does Emma-Lei, Emmalei, Emma Lay, etc.

How would you spell emma-lay?

Thanks!

I think its a really pretty name although it would most likely be miss-pronounced as Emily all the time.
I think I would spell it Emilay because I agree with you the other spellings look strange. Maybe Emmalei?

That reminds me of a girl I know. Her name is Brittnay, pron. Britt NAY not Britt NEE.

I could definitely see it being mispronounced ALL the time. And like Brittnay, it has sort of a humorous quality to it and I could see big teasing potential.

The spelling that I think would be the least likely to be misspronounced would be Emma-Lei.

I think Emma-Lei just might be a better choice of them all :)

I can see how it'd be annoying to constantly have your name miss-pronounced, so this would hopefully cut back at least a little bit of mistakes... As a double name at least it's not got that awkward look like Emilei does :)

Thanks Paige and Katie!

I agree with you on that spelling the only problem is I hate hate hyphen names. No offence intended. I dont know why they, just look odd to me. But the hyphen is better then her being called Emily her entire life. :)

Hehehe, I'm not particularly fond of hyphens, but I end up sticking them in places without noticing sometimes :)

Maybe just a double first name, Emma Lei would look nice... maybe. I think EmmaLei would look smushed, and Emmalei does look kinda nice, but longish D:

Your right, without the hyphen it looks beautiful, just as long as people realize that her name isn't just Emma with Lei being her middle name. But that would be avoided if you named her 'Emma Lei 'Scarlett' 'insert last name.' Or you could just correct them :)

I dont mind hypenated names. The hypen just lets you know that the two names are used in combination.

Hence Mary-Kate Olsen is "Mary Kate" not FN: Mary MN: Kate LN: Olsen

& why I like Whitman Lark-Alfred ... his 1 MN is Lark-Alfred rather than having 2 middle names.

Hehe, Emma Lei Scarlett would be super pretty! :)

The hyphen does seem to pull everything together, though I'm still not sure I like it lol

I don't think people would have too big of a problem, though. Especially being your middle name is unnecessary for most things. Like in school, when her name is called off the attendance sheet, they would see "Emma Lei Taylor". As they would also see when she writes her names on papers and everything. When you sign checks and stuff, she'd sign it like that too. So unless you looked directly at her social security card, or if she decided to write the entire name out, then people might be confused. But again, she mainly would just write first and last name... I guess people might think it's two last names though D:
