What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?
Victoria M
What do you think of your name?
It's pretty, and I actually like it a lot. I like that it means victory, and I sometimes have a soft spot for other names that mean the same thing.
If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
I wouldn't change it to anything...if I had to, maybe Vanessa or something like that.
What are your favorite boys' names?
I have too many! But at the top of my list I'd say Jeffrey, Nathan, William, Jude, Beau, David, Edward, and Mathias.
Why are they your favorite?
Jeffrey - Ever since I was a little kid I liked it. The world needs more Jeffs, okay? It's a cool nickname.
Nathan - A kid named this went to preschool and later elementary with me; I also thought that it was cool. I used to like it more on its own, but I've lately come
William - Heard the nickname "Will" while my parents were watching a movie. Thought it was interesting. And William, while I didn't originally like it, is a nice name to me now. Even though it's in the top 10, most people probably go for the nickname Liam (which I also like but it's in the top 10 as well.)
Jude - Na, na na, na na na, na! Na na na, na! Hey, Jude! (Also a cool-sounding name.)
Beau - Game I played where one of the characters was named this, thought it was a nice name since.
David - I don't know, I just like it. (Ignore the fact that the 10th Doctor is my avatar.)
Edward - Edd Gould, he's famous for Eddsworld on YouTube. Modest sounding name.
Mathias - Matthew, while I still like the name, is too common; believe me, I've met wayyy too many Matthews. Matteo is nice too, but if I were to choose which is best I'd go for Mathias. It's different, and I guess that's why I like it.
What are your favorite girls' names?
Anne, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Francesca, Vanessa, Natasha, Beatrice, Laura
Why are they your favorite?
Anne - My middle name, my mom's middle name and my great-grandmother's name. Overused as a middle name, but I still think it's pretty used as a first name. Still debating whether a good choice would be Anne Victoria or Anne Maria (probably Anne Maria as it was my mom's name).
Elizabeth - Top 10. But it's a modest name, it could work for anyone and it ages well.
Eleanor - Always liked it. Reminds me of a little girl who's lovable and adorable.
Francesca - It's pretty. (I have a thing for Italian names.)
Vanessa - It's similar to Victoria, and cool sounding - it reminds me of a tomboy, or someone quiet who reads a lot.
Natasha - Staring, at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window; Natasha Bedingfield. I'm also fond of Natalie. Maybe because Natasha and Natalie sound like Nathan. I also know maybe at least two singers with the name Natalie.
Beatrice - Not much to say here, I just like it.
Laura - Lauren is a bit popular, there are two Laurens in my class. It's a nice name, but I think I prefer Laura.
(Boy names come easier to me than girl names do)
What are your dream sibling sets?
Jeffrey and Anne, my two favorite names. Nicknamed Jeff and Annie.
Nathan and Edward has sort of a ring to it; Nate and Edd.
Elizabeth and Eleanor, even though I usually don't like matchy names I just think these go nice together on twin girls; Beth and Helen.
Which trumps: meaning or flow?
Definitely flow. Some names have bad meanings and some don't have any meaning at all. Mary means sea of bitterness, for crying out loud.
What factors come in to play when naming a real child?
Usually when they have some sort of meaning as to why you chose it other than you liked the name. Like, choose the name Ireland because you're Irish or something. Yet people still name their kids just because they like the name. My brother was named just because my parents liked it, for example. I was sort of named because my parents liked the name, but I was also named after the street my mom grew up on, and my middle name was almost Lane if my mom hadn't liked it (thank God).
When did you start loving names?
I don't know, I think I always have. But the Sims definitely plays a major role, as does writing, since I have to name all my characters. Or if I hear a name I like from somewhere and I decide I like it - that also plays a part.
Why do you love names?
No idea. It's an odd habit, since I won't have to name an actual kid for a very long time. And Sims and writing and such, since naming someone a name everyone has can only go so far.
How would you describe your naming style?
A mix of old-fashioned, unique, modest, common, cool, or classic names. Usually spelled right, but I spell Alan like Allen since it's a family name, and for awhile I spelled Jeffrey like Jeffery until I decided I liked Jeffrey better.
With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?
Sometimes. Jeff is a cool guy. Anne is a sweet girl. Toby's a chubby little boy. Etc.
Do you keep a name list?
Yep, and it's growing more and more by the minute.
Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?
It's on a Word doc.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?
Maybe. I keep asking my dad for opinions on names.
Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?
Not that I know of.
If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?
At the moment I'm single, so I'm going to go from what my ex-boyfriend thinks. He also likes the name Edward, he told me once it had a nice ring to his last name (which it does). I never told him a lot of my choices, but he agrees with some, like William, Anne, and Maria anyway.
What are your SO's favorite names?
Well, he wants his future kids to be named (insert his first name here) Jr., William, and Sarah. And when we were dating, Maria. He also likes Edward, and I assumed he had a thing for Lyle, Lloyd and Floyd as well (since he kept naming his characters those).
...and anything else you want to tell about your names!
Baby name websites are awesome! Sometimes they're unreliable, but I get many of my names from forums or Behind the Name or whatever.
