My husband and I cannot find a name that suits us. We are a pretty unique couple- I model tattoos, and he is a more conservative writer. We're expecting a girl, and I want a first name thats unique, edgy, yet pretty, and he wants a pretty old fashioned middle name. We must have been through a hundred names, but nothing sticks. And we've already heard 'Roxy' and 'Eve' a hundred times. My name is Marissa, so I know the pains of a common name.

Lux (means light) (greek) -not common at all, the x makes it edgy (in my opinion), and it's unique.
Nyx (means night) (latin) -basically the same description as above.

Or there is...
Phoenix (phoenix; deep red)(greek)- kind of common, but definitely unique, fun, and edgy.
Aura (breeze; breath) (latin; french) (pronounced Aw-ra or Or-ra) -not common, but fun, edgy, and unique.
Aveline (bird?) (german?) (pronounced Ah-vuh-leen)- Unique, fun, and not common.

I'm sorry but for the well being of a child it should not be named Nymph. It will be teased, and called Nympho and Nymphomaniac. Though in a perfect world it would be a pretty name.

Colour names like Teal or Topaz are edgy IMO. Tempest has been a guilty pleasure name of mine since reading The Tempest in high school. A little bit of Shakespeare for your husband the writer and what's edgier than a storm? :)

Teal
Topaz
Tempest
Tatum
Taja/Taija (Tay-gah g like in beige)
Sephora
Veruca (Ruca)

Not as hard hitting
Nova
Evia (eh-vee-ah the ev part sounds like Evan) A Greek island and a variant of Eve.

Evia Claire
Tempest Coraline
Teal Marie
Sephora Yvette

I agree with you. I want my child to have an uncommon, unique, yet edgy name. I can't tell you how many times I have heard a girl called Bella or Sophia.

A few names that I love are:
Isis
Aries
Phoenix
Athena
Aysen
Piper
Ivy
Raven
Electra
Ayre (pronounced eye-ree)

My daughters first name is Sloane, people always comment that it is pretty and edgy :) . It sounds nice with an ultra feminine middle name...
