Eliza
Origin: Diminutive of Elizabeth, Hebrew, "pledged to God"
Popularity in 2009: #278

Fiona
Origin: Scottish, "the fair one"
Popularity in 2009: #313

Did you know Wolfram Alpha will compare names? It is pretty cool -> Fiona v. Eliza

Any comments would be especially appreciated. I'm really torn at this point between an old favorite (Eliza) and a new name love (Fiona). Somehow I just don't see them as sisters, so I'd like to see if I can pick between them. Right now, Fiona has the advantage of a solid combo, Fiona Jessamine. Eliza, however, is constantly on the fence. I've yet to find anything I consider "perfect," and I've been looking for a year now. Any advantages/disadvantages or combos for the two would be wonderful.

Current combos (not necessary to comment on these... just putting them out there):

Long middle // Short middle // 2 middles
Fiona Jessamine // Fiona Bridget // Fiona Lilith Calliope
Eliza Gwendolen // Eliza Noelle // Eliza Juno Rhiannon

I LOVE Fiona (:
And I like Eliza, but it always feels like a nick name for Elizabeth to me.
And I LOVE Fiona Bridget, I think it flows really well and looks nice too. (:

I just love Eliza.
But I don't mind Fiona, it's actually pretty quirky and cute in its own way.
A name I think would be a considerable alternative is Flora. A little lighter, but still pretty and not so common at all.

Why do you not see Eliza and Fiona as sisters? Is it the different style?
They are on the same level, I think, popularity-wise, which is good for a sibset.
And I could definitely see two little sisters sporting these names! (: They are not too matchy, but still blend very well together.

As for combos, I would personally find it a bit harder to pair Fiona instead.. but I guess that's very personal.
I don't particularly like either Jessamine or Bridget. Lilith and Calliope are nice, I'm just not sure about them together.

Noelle is not my style, but I like Gwendolen --I prefer the spelling Gwendolyn-- and Juno, and Rhiannon is getting bearable :)
Is length a deciding factor when pairing up names? If not, then Eliza Juno or Eliza June definitely make it up my list.

I love the sound of Fiona, but keep in mind the ogre in Shrek (the girl one) is named that, so possibly potential teasing there. :)
Eliza is also good. Eek. I can't choose!

Fiona is pretty, I do like the sound of it, and how it flows off the tongue. It just has a princessy sort of feel, like a quirky, spunky princess :P For whatever reason, I always picture it on an older girl. I can't see a really little girl named Fiona :P Or maybe I can the more I think of it... haha!

Eliza is stunningly gorgeous. Not sure why I adore the sound of it so much, but I just like the way it looks and sounds! Elegant, yet young and beautiful and fun ;) I can't really explain it, I just love Eliza a lot <3

Eliza is a winner by a longshot in my mind :P <3 Not sure why, I just like it more than Fiona <3 though, I did have a really mean cat named Fiona when I was little. She sure was gorgeous, spunky and excitable. But, she was mean so I forever have a mental scar that comes along with Fiona! :o It's a good name, and I can see it to be such a good name! But yeah, tehehe <3

Though, I also think Eliza and Fiona would make such good sib sets! :P I can see a big sister Eliza toting around little sister Fiona around a playground/field sort of thing. Lol random mental picture maybe... but they really do sound really good together as a sib set!

But, when it comes down to it, I do adore Eliza more. So that's where my vote went. Not sure how I can help you though :) It's hard with the fact that Eliza hasn't found that "perfect" middle name, and Fiona has...

But you don't wanna keep both on the list anyways, just in case? :) You never know, you may chose one and then when you have a baby girl, you might look at her and go "You know, you look more like a ______ then a ______". ;) Haha! <3
