We are expecting our third child, due in January! We are not finding out the sex, unlike our first two, which makes naming so much harder this time around. Our older children are Viviana Schuyler and Cassian Heath but we call them Vivi and Caz. We like longish, uncommon full names with short, modern nicknames if they want to use them. Some of the middles honor, others are just names we like. I'll star the ones that honor. Any thoughts, favorites, comments, suggestions, opinions, or insights are appreciated!

This is my list, most are DH approved but some aren't:

Rhiannon Ever "Rhea"- Might be our front runner, but some days I love it more than others. I like the nickname pronounced "ray-uh" but I don't know how to spell it. I can't use Raya because I actually know one, and she pronounces it like Maya!

Indira Sophie* "Indie"- DH loves Indie more than Indira, but I think it's a good combination of our likes

Hermione Alice* "Hero"- We both love Harry Potter so the reference doesn't bother us. It's hard to find a nickname for, though. Hero is a guilty pleasure of mine and is Shakespearean, so it's a real name.

Fiona Parker*- I know Parker isn't everyone's style but it's an honor name. I don't like Fifi so this probably won't have a nickname.

Elowen Saskia "Lola"- Also love Elsie as a nickname.

Emelina Brynn "Emmy"- Other nickname ideas welcome. I thought of Nell but DH thinks it's too much of a stretch. I'm just worried that Emmy will be looped in with all the Emmas and Emilys running around.

Laelia Simone* "Laea"- Nickname pronounced like Leia but I think the Laea spelling makes more sense for the name Laelia.

Aveline Freya- I need a nickname for this too. I thought of Avie but I think it's too close to Ava and Avery. Nell could possibly work too but it's even more of a stretch.

Megara Cecile "Ara"- My friend suggested this and I love it! I'd be open to Meg as a nickname too but I don't want people to think she's a Megan. I prefer Ara or Ari.

Katrina ? "Kat"- We don't live near the south, but either way the hurricane reference doesn't bother me. If Andrew can shake the hurricane, so can Katrina. Middle name ideas?

Oberon Sage "Bear"- Boys are hard because some names I think are just too weird. This is one I'm worried about.

Dashiell Jude "Dash"- Is this gonna get popular?

Finnian Lucas "Flynn"- I prefer Flynn over Finn so I don't care it it's a stretch. I'm still worried it's too close to Cassian.

Terrence Archer* "Ren"- Is this too soft for a boy? I think it's sweet but DH doesn't know if it works for different kinds of boys.

Evander Griffin "Andy"- I love Toy Story.

Remus Carter- Another favorite from Harry Potter. No nickname for this one.

Malachi River "Kai"- Is this too popular?

Dominic* Alistair "Nico"- I was shocked to see this is in the top 100. I only know one and he's my age! Is this really that common?

Mercury Silas "Rory"- Mercury is a guilty pleasure but I think Rory brings it back to Earth.

Perseus Alistair "Percy"- Does the combo have too much S? I also like Perseus Vincent and Persues Quinn.

I'm open to more suggestions. Again, I prefer uncommon names. It it's something similar to a common name, I'd be willing to consider it. For example, our daughter Viviana went to daycare with a Vivienne, but since she was so much older than our Vivi, it didn't matter. We've never met another Cassian or Caz though. Our last name is two syllables and starts with Brown so no color names. Thank you!!

Rhiannon Ever "Rhea"- I really like this combo but I think the nickname Ria would make more sense.
Indira Sophie* "Indie"- Not really a fan of Indira, but Sophie is alright. To be honest I'm sick of hearing the name Indie, it's everywhere I look now!
Hermione Alice* "Hero"- I really dislike the name Hermione. Not just cause it's Harry Potter but all I think about when I see it is hermaphrodite. I don't think it's an attractive name at all, in sound of looks. Alice is alright. Hero is just not okay imo especially for a girl.
I really like Hera though.
Fiona Parker*- Mostly for personal associations I'm not a fan of Fiona but I guess it's a pretty name. Parker is super cute for middle name!
Elowen Saskia "Lola"- Elowen is very pretty, but I don't really like Lola as a nickname for it. Saskia is also very pretty! Have you thought about it for a first name?
Emelina Brynn "Emmy"- Emelina is really pretty, but you're right about Emmy. All the Em names are so popular right now. I love the nickname Lina and you could also do Mel if you want! Brynn is alright.
Laelia Simone* "Laea"- thought Laelia sounds super pretty but the spelling looks strange to me.
Laylia also looks strange to me. Maybe Lailea? I could see that being pronounced Lye-lay-uh though. I'm not sure lol it sounds pretty but looks funny. I don't like Simone but it flows.
Aveline Freya- This is probably my favorite combo of yours! I love Aveline and Freya. They're beautiful together.
Megara Cecile "Ara"- Not a fan of Megara. It just doesn't sound very pretty at all. I don't like Cecile either. What about Cecily? That would be cute. I do like Ara though.
Katrina ? "Kat"- Not a fan of Katrina. Very dated to me, I can't see it on anyone under 40. I don't like the nickname Kat either.

Girl suggestions:
Araminta (maybe instead of Megara?)
Cressida
Ophelia
Antonia
Isolde
Clementine
Xanthia
Astoria (love the nickname Story!)
Cornelia/Cordelia
Vittoria
Evana
Andromeda

Thank you!

Ria is pretty in theory but I just think of diarrhea so that's why I prefer ray-uh. I'm surprised you said you see Indie everywhere since I've never met one. Hero is actually typically used as a female name, both in Shakespeare and Greek mythology, but I see what you mean about Hermione. I'd love to use Saskia as a first name but DH won't go for it. Lina is okay but Mel just sounds like an old man to me. I wouldn't change the spelling of Laelia, since that's the original and I'm not usually one for unnecessary spelling changes. Plus I love the look of "ae".

I love a lot of your suggestions and many are ones we've discussed! I especially like:

Araminta
Astoria- I also love the idea of Story!
Elodie- love, but can't use, unfortunately
Serafina- I LOVE Seraphina but DH doesn't.
Evelina- I really love the nickname Evie but my niece is Evelyn
Calista- one of my favorites but I detest Callie and I can't find any other nicknames I love

I'll definitely ask DH about Araminta and Astoria.

I'm glad you like Some of then! I have to say Astoria is beautiful and Story is sooo cute!

Back to the boy names!

Oberon Sage "Bear"- I'm not a fan of Oberon. Sounds like a Star Wars name? Lol Sage is super cool for a boy middle name and call me crazy but I kind of like Bear. More of a guilty pleasure though
Dashiell Jude "Dash"- Love Dashiell and Dash and I don't think it's getting too popular at all. I like Jude. Not sure about how well the combo flows though.
Finnian Lucas "Flynn"- I'm not the biggest fan of Finnian. All the Finn names are getting really popular. I think it is a little close to Cassian. Lucas is nice for a middle name.
Terrence Archer* "Ren"- I definitely don't think it's too soft! Terrence does sound a little more old fashioned than I like but it's not horrible. Archer is cute.
Evander Griffin "Andy"- I love Evander. So handsome. Not the biggest fan of Griffin but it works. I don't like the nickname Andy though.
Remus Carter- Remus makes me think of a rat. No idea why but it does. Lol. Carter makes a good middle name.
Malachi River "Kai"- Love it but Kai and other Kai names are definitely getting very popular right now, even for girls too.
Dominic* Alistair "Nico"- I know a lot of Dominic's so yes it is pretty popular. Alistair is handsome though and I like the name Nico.
Mercury Silas "Rory"- I think I would keep Mercury as a guilty pleasure. I absolutely love Silas though and Rory is a cute nickname.
Perseus Alistair "Percy"- It is definitely S heavy. I really don't like Perseus or Percy. Again, Alistair is handsome but I don't think it works well with Perseus.

Boy suggestions:
Darian / Darius
Emery
Thaddeus
Roman
Cedric
Lucius
Prescott
Duncan
Simon
Abram
Remington
Jacoby
Tobias
Caledon
Truman
Atlas
Lachlan
Osias
Desmond
Barrett
Malcolm
Uriah
Ronan
Jasper
Gideon
Atticus
Brighton
Turner
Percival
Nikolai (maybe instead of Dominic or even Malachi?)
Demetri
Soren
Lysander
Odin
Merritt
Adrian
Leif
Calder
Josiah
Bishop
Israel
Corbin
Judas / Judah
Riordan
Preston
Calisto
Rowan
Thatcher
Cree / Creed
Severin

Oberon is Shakespearean also, but I see the Star Wars vibe! And I'm not sure I mind it either, lol. I also love the nickname Bear, it would honor my grandparents, but I think it's definitely a nickname. I also thought about Dashiell Quinn, if not Jude. For Finnian... I love Flynn but I think I will take that one off the list. I do know of a few kids with Finn- names. I'm glad someone else thinks Terrence isn't too soft. Maybe DH will finally give me a yes for it (and not just a *shrug* "yeah, it's okay"). Griffin was my husband's choice. It's not my favorite, but he goes along with my first name style so I have to let him have something.

From the suggestions, I'm loving:

Emery- spelled Emory though... DH will probably think it's too soft though

Duncan- I'm also love Deacon right now!

Jacoby- definitely on the table as a middle
Atlas- I LOVE this
Osias- I tried to convince DH about Osiris but he didn't go for it. Maybe he'll like this!
Percival- still would give me the Percy I like... hmm, I worry it's too much name for anyone to handle. I kinda like it though.

Unfortunately, I got a solid "No" for Araminta, and a half-hearted shrug for Astoria. Still might be hope for Astoria but probably not much.

An update from our boy's list: Emory, Osias, and Percival are definite nos. Duncan and Deacon are solid maybes. Atlas got a thumbs up as did Jacoby! Think Atlas Jacoby or Atlas Gabriel as our combos.

I also recently found the name Zelina for a girl while researching and I really like it! The name is Greek and means "zealous". I was thinking Zelina Fable nn Zia could be cute.

Any other thoughts are needed! Thank you!

My favorites from your list:

Fiona Parker

Aveline Freya

Evander Griffin  - though I would probably pick "Evan" instead of "Andy"

Malachi River

Emelina and Aveline could both use Lina as a nickname.

Percy - because this is a Thomas (the train) character, I wouldn't use it. So many little boys (including mine) are consumed with Thomas. Percy is an unusual name in our culture, so I think people will connect it with this cartoon.

Thank you! Lina could grow on me but I don't like Evan. I think Andy is easy enough to get to. My kids watch more Disney Junior or Netflix than anything else so I don't think they've ever seen Thomas. I work with children in my job but I didn't make the connection until you said that. I might take that into consideration but it won't be the reason we don't use Percy.

Thank you!
