My family, friends, and I travel a lot. My friend Emily and I always have the hardest trouble name-wise going places, not with other people's names but our own. People have soo much trouble trying to pronounce Addison, even just Addy, and I'm convinced that Emily is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, name to say in other parts of the world.

We are wanting alternate versions of our names/names similar to our names to use when we travel to places that have trouble. We don't want trendy names, eg Emily does NOT want Emerson. For me I'm thinking maybe Aida (when pronounced properly, it is three syllables. Eye-eee-duh) and Emily is considering Emilia, but isn't sold. We want more suggestions. These suggestions should be names that transfer cultures and languages well.

Thank you to all who reply! :)

I would suggest Maia/Maya for your sister. Since it has both classical and Latin roots, it should be easily pronounced in many different countries.

For yourself, Aida is nice. Although I'm not sure how easy it is for foreigners to pronounce. It is hard to find something that could fit just about anywhere. Ada would be a tad simpler.

Have you thought about picking a name from each country you visit?
