I read a series of books (the one where my user name is from) where the kids were named:
Saffon nn Saffy
Cadmium Gold nn Caddy
Indigo nn Indy
Permanent Rose nn Rose
All paint colors except for Saffron (which is explained in the book). Saffy and Indigo did not go by their nicknames all the time, but they were easy ways to shorten the names in some situations (:
