Name: Madeline
Location: Paris

My husband and I have fallen in love with the name Evie, but would our baby's full name to be Evelyn. Although we are undecided on the pronunciation, should it be Ev-lyn or Eve-lyn, the latter I think sounds less modern.

Also, we would like her middle name to be in honour of my husband's grandmother, Eileen. However, we'd like to use a modern variation of Eileen for our daughter, any suggestions?

Did you know that Eileen is a gaelic variant of the english name Evelyn?
So in a way you are already honoring grandmother Eileen.

Here are some names that are variants or sound similar to Eileen...

Isla or Aila (EYE luh)
Ailey (EY lee)
Eleene (EY lee ne)
Aylin (EY lyn)
Ayleen
Lena
Helen
Elaina
Elonna

I agree with Katie on that you're already honouring his grandmother, but if you still want to stick to a middle name deriving from Eileen, Isla is by far my favourite.

Lena
Ellen
Elaine
Liana
are just a few others.
Anything with the same sounds, letters, initials or the sort could be a way of honouring her!

I love the name Evie, and I think you should go traditional and choose Evelyn.

You can then change Eileen to begin with an 'A' so the initials are different:

Evelyn Ayleen
Evelyn Aileen
Evelyn Ayleign

I wish you all the luck.

One of my top names is Evia (I think it sounds nicest with a soft E). It's the name of a Greek island and a variant of Eve. It isn't a new name at all but it doesn't sound dated IMO because it's rarely ever used. It can definitely carry the nickname Evie!

Elena
Elise

Eileen backwards is Neelie. That could work as a middle name.

Good luck :)

Ev-eh-linn, definitely.

Eileen and Evelyn are related (they both come from the Germanic name Aveline), so I think you're good with just using Evelyn.

Eve-lyn is prettier, in my opinion.
To honor Eileen, even if baby's name is Evelyn, you could try Aislyn or Erin.
Kylie is a less common choice for this, but they both have (eil-) sounds.
Enjoy and good luck!
