Our third child is due in April. We want her name ( it's a girl) to begin with an /S/. The only name we can agree on is highly unusual, Sela. Our other two children have more common names. Is this one way out there?

I think Sela is nice.  I think the fact that it is more unusual shouldn't dissuade you.  The name has received some attention with the movie Selah and the Bee so it is not unheard of (although I don't think I ever came across it before the movie).  It is recognizable and easy to pronounce so that makes it more usable.   My sister went from Gracie with her first, to Greta with her second and I think they work well together despite one being super popular and the other less so.

Selah is actually #548 on the popularity list, so it isn't that uncommon. I do recommend putting the h on the end to clarify pronunciation, etc. It is the original spelling.

Maybe you'd like Shiloh or Salome? Sailor is getting trendy these days as well.

I agree with the above poster. Selah is a great name; Sela looks incomplete. The names I list here as suggestions are all "legit," meaning none are recently made-up.

I agree with Selah. It will save you a world of confusion if you use the proper spelling.  It's a nice name  :)

Sela/Selah is a pretty name, and I would use it despite it being uncommon.
