I posted about this name probably a couple years ago now (my, how the time flies by lol) so I wanted some fresh opinions on it. I've placed it in the guilty pleasures slot for now, but every so often I wonder if I could get away with naming my daughter Briar Rose. I'd probably call her Rose most of the time (and it saves me the stress of finding a middle name I adore for Rose, which I have yet to do) I think it's absolutely gorgeous, but is it too Disney or fairytale-esque? As pretty as I think it is, it just might be "too much" to actually use, but I haven't thrown away the idea completely.

Thoughts?

I don't think its too princessy at all! Its the name of a flower, nature name. At the place I work at theres a scent with Briar Rose in it.

Would Briar Rose be a double first name? or a first and middle? <3 I prefer it as a double first name, especially if you intend on calling her Rose anyways. Idk, it always bothered me when people named their child with the intention of using another name, even if their middle name. Obviously its up to you, just my thought :)

Either way, I love Briar and I love Rose, and I feel like they just flow so well into each other :) Not too much of a mouthful, very beautiful!

Personally, I totally imagine this as usable on a girl/woman of this day! <3

I think it definitely words better as a full first name - however, Briar Rose certainly wouldn't need a middle name then, and the idea of not using a middle name would take some getting used to for me, haha . It brings me back to that topic I started a while ago - how important are middle names, and does a child really need one?

I think if I did use it, Briar Rose would have to be her full first name - to me, it's just one full name, not two separate names.

Thanks for your feedback!

I totally agree :) I think it sounds great as a full first name! And I also agree that it wouldn't really need a middle name <3 I suppose you could add a middle name if you really wanted, but it doesn't NEED one. Haha I can only imagine it would take getting used to.. I enjoy middle names a little too much haha. True though true. Sadly unimportant :(

Glad to help!

I just worry that not having a middle name might be weird for her. Like even though they aren't necessary, they're the norm here in the states, so I wonder if she'd feel out of the loop without a middle name, or if her double first name would kind of suffice instead. But adding another name onto Briar Rose would be too much, I'd think, so I'd definitely shy away from tacking a nickname onto a double first name

I absolutely love it :) I have a weakness for fairytale names myself, but I don't think it's too princessy or fairytale-ish at all. If you were talking about Cinderella, that might be a different story! Since it is a double name, I don't really think a middle name is necessary myself. I feel like it would just clutter a name that is beautiful on its own :)

I think it works fine as a first and middle name combination if she'd go by Rose anyway!
I remember when you first brought this combo up... Has it really been that long? I love it personally. <3

I like the Briar Rose combo but at the same time Briar is such a boys name imo.

After reading Tamora Pearce, I can't shake off Briar being all boy for me. I think it's cute and I love the name, but I just can't see it as anything but a boy's name because of her :P I think it sounds nice, though.

I'm quite the opposite - I think Briar sounds quite feminine, but then again, I have really only seen it used in the Briar Rose combo. Needless to say, I would probably be calling her Rose the majority of the time, so the Briar part wouldn't be that important, though I think it does make a beautiful (and very feminine) name when they are paired together
