My fiance and I were planning on naming our son Michael James, after my fiance and various other family members, as family names are very important to us. However my fiance has never fully wanted to use Michael as he has family issues and wishes to not pass on his name because it is also the name of the person he has (SEVERE) problems with. I respect this decision as we had other options lined up before we decided on Michael James and so I have no problem with it. Our only other option that we have, that we both ADORE and haven't veto'd since choosing Michael James is Magnus James and we feel we are pretty much set on this. We both love the combo as we feel it is very unique yet simple and charming as well has "normal". Both of our families have Irish/Scottish roots as well and this name touches on that which we also love.

Well, if he has such bad associations with Michael, I wouldn't go for it Even if its his own name, it just may bring bad memories.. and you don't want any less than positive thoughts on the name! If your set on Magnus James, I'd go with it. I kinda like Magnus, it is a bit unique but its definitely not crazy. I knew a guy who's nick name was Mag (its a long story, not related to his name but eh). I didn't like him but I do hear Mag and see it moreso on a guy because of it.

Caia and Magnus would go pretty well together too <3
