I was thinking about a guy I know who used two middle names for his kids, and I started thinking of naming traditions. Do any of you have neat naming traditions? Or do you know of any?

I am interested in starting a naming tradition when I start a family. I'm not sure why the thought interests me so much, but it just sounds so cool! Of course, my kids would have to chose to continue it until it actually becomes a tradition, but attempting to start one sounds fun :P

The only two naming traditions I know of myself is the two middle names thing, or naming after a family member sort of thing.

Well, if there is any more out there, I'd love to hear of them!

Thanks!

I'm not really into the whole naming tradition thing. I think if you like the name, then use it :P

The only one I really know of is the same letter fn thing. My mum's cousin has four kids and their names all start with J.

I don't know if I'd call these "traditions," but here goes. My dad is named after his grandfathers, Charles and Ralph (so he is Charles Ralph), and his dad's name was also Charles... Also, my boyfriend was raised by his grandparents instead of his real parents, but he uses his grandparents last name and has middle names that are his birth mother's last name and his father's middle name. Luckily, his mom's last name is Anthony, so his middle names are Anthony and Everett. Wow, that was confusing. I was just trying to explain how his parents and the grandparents who raised him are all part of his name. Sorry, I'm just not good at explaining.

Haha, I think I get it!

But those are cute! I think naming after family is the best naming tradition I have heard so far, lol. It just works! :P

Yeah... he confuses me every time he talks about it. I come from a family where I only have to keep track of 5 people (brother, parents, 1 set of grandparents.) other than myself. I've considered using their names on my list, but most people in my family either have names they don't like or names that I know won't translate well today.

My family has passed on the same middle name for the past several generations- May. Also, there has been some variations on family members name's as well. I have considered using these traditions when I have kids with examples of using Charlie for a middle name after my mother, Charlene. Or Clare for a middle name after my husband's grandpa Clarence. We will see what we actually decide because each family kind of starts their own traditions!

Hahaha, small family does sound kind of nice! Only keeping track of five people... people aren't forgotten! <3 I have plenty of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, etc. And so many people get forgotten!

But I think I might have to do that.... Okay, I'll make a topic with all my family names... and some help turning them a bit different cause some of them I realllllly don't care for.... <3

Double middle names & same middle names.

My middle name is Michelle.
As is
My Moms - Brandy Michelle
My Mother-in-Laws - Lisa Michelle
My Cousins - Stephanie Mashell (her's is spelled quite different)

If i have a daughter her name will be Leigha Abigail Michelle (double mn thing)

Double middle names:

My Brother - Scott William Grady Newton
My Nephew - Scott "William" Grady Newton Jr.
My Nephew - Clay Henry Grady Newton

It's mainly boys in my family that have double middle names, but my girls are going to have double middle names & my boys will not. (That's what my husband wants).

In my family, the first girl has the same initial as her great grandmother (maternal)
So my ggma was Mildred and I'm Mariel. my grandma is Lorraine, so my daughter will be Raine or Raina or Luna or Lydia or Lorelei... Etc Etc

My father's side of the family is really into first born's being named after their father. My grandpa is Roger Paul, my uncle is Vincent Paul, my cousin is Paul Blaine, and his son is Malakai Paul. My father is Heath Blaine, and I'm Jessica Blair. My uncle is Jared Evan and his son is Dawson Evanlane, etc. I could see myself carrying on this tradition.

I don't like the all same first initial thing (and is it just me or do people tend to pick J's).

My dad and his six siblings all have J names, also! People who like this style of naming certainly do tend to lean toward J's! I've always been curious about that. Personally, if I were to do that, I think I would choose A's. I just love so many A names, especially for girls, that I don't think it would be too much of a stretch. Haha.

In my family, all the first born boys are named either Thomas or James. EVERY first born boy, so right now.. We have I think 2 Thomas' and 2 James'.

So, my dad is Thomas and his dad was James, and his dad was Thomas.. (So on). And my brother is James. So, when my brother has a son (If). He has to name him Thomas.. :)
And if he doesn't have kids, then its up to my older sister Caty, and if she doesn't have another son, then its up to me..
And if none of us have any sons, then its up to my grandfathers NEXT son, or daughter..
Its all very confusing..

My mom and I both have the same middle name (Rose) though the tradition will end with me.

I have a friend who shares the same initials as her siblings; Shannon Ashley, Stacey Ann and Steven Adam.

An old neighbor of mine named all her daughters after TV witches; Samantha, Tabitha and Sabrina... I thought that was kind of strange.
