I'm thinking of making up a bunch of characters for a story based off of The Hunger Games, so I wanted a bunch of unusual names to pick from. Possibly names that mean something but aren't considered names? Or just, you know, your average weird name. Some examples of what I'm looking for:

-Nutmeg
-Nicodemus
-Maple
-Sagittaria --I quite like this one, though I would obviously never use it in real life
-Solace
-Blythe

Hope those help you get a good sense of the type of names I'm looking for. Thanks in advance!

I consider Blythe a normal name, just very daring.

Very sophisticated and won't be thought of as "strange."

What about the name Mosley?

You could always look at plant names like the author did with Katniss and Primrose.
Roses:
Elle
Elsie
July
Honey
Mignonette
Constance
Spry (might be neat for a young boy or tomboy character)
Alba
Arvensis (might make a decent last name)
Bourbon
Blaze
Eglantine (not fond of the g but it kind of intrigues me)
Arcata
Gallica
Mundi
Reine (Reine des violettes are a very pretty deep purple : )
Violette
Sedona (also a neat place)
Kordes (sorta like Cortez or cord-ees?)
Macrantha (I'd probably go Marcantha though)
Oso
Pernetiana
Pimpinelli (maybe Pinelli or just Nelli)
Polyantha
Renaissance (I think the nn Renai would be cute but that's about all I like about it)
Pillar (seems plausible, people are using this as a name and variants of it currently)

Tulips (could use Tulip in and of itself)
Irene
Apricot (also a fruit and color)
Montgomery
Tulipa
Virichic (maybe a neat last name?)
Scherer (sounds neat as a boys name, the tulip is black in color)
Monte (the tulip is a vibrant orange and red mix resembling flames)
Monsella (last name or extravagant first name?)

Daisies (Daisy itself could work)
Michaelmas
Gerbera
Tahoka

Jasmine
Winter
Chameli
Mogra
Poet
Jessamine

Constellations
Andromeda
Apus
Aquarius
Aquila (Uh-key-la)
Ara
Aries
Caelum
Carina
Cassiopea
Cetus
Corvus
Crux
Fornax (I'd probably change it to Thornax and use it for a warrior type)
Indus
Leo
Lepus
Lynx
Lyra
Orion
Pavo
Vela

Brightest stars in the constellations
Antiliae
Altair
Arae
Hamal
Capella (also related to singing, acapella)
Caeli
Caroli
Circini
Berenices (I'd just use Berenice, it's rare as is)
Meridiana
Labrum (Kind of like Abram, maybe spell it Labram instead?)
Rotanev (Roe-ta-nev)
Doradus
Fornacis (fore-Nay-sis)
Alphard (almost like Alfred and Richard)
Rigel (almost like Nigel)
Antares (Anne-tare-es)
Spica

If I think of more I'll come back to post them.

Epsilon (neat boy name or last name)
Zeta (or Eta : ) it's another star though!)
Leonis
Delphini
Theta
Carinae

Celaeno
Eltanin
Gemma
Gatria
Giedi
Gienah
Haldus
Hassaleh
Keid
Kita
Lesath
Lucida
Maia
Mira
Miram
Navi
Pleione (Play-o-nee)
Porrima
Izar
Rana
Rasalas
Salm (rhymes with palm and calm)
Sarin
Segin (not sure how it's pronounced, I prefer it as sayg-in but it's probably pronounced Seg-jin)
Shaula
Suhail (Last name?)
Syrma
Talitha
Tien (seems interesting, unisex in nature I'd pronounce it tEE-en)
Tureis (first name or last name? Probably pronounced Ture (like sure)-Is but I'd pronounce it Tureese like a mix between Terry and Reese)
Zaniah
Eri
Ain (reminds me of the fairy/Celtic name Aine)
Alcyone (Al-see-own or Al-see-own-ay)
Alhena (Al-heen-uh, kind of like Eleena)

Aias
Thyrza
Xochitl (Zo-sche, might want to change the spelling to something like Zochy)

I love coyote's suggestions like Honey, Blaze, Winter and Sarin. They all sound like Hunger Games-type names to me!

I used Nymbler to search Katniss and came up with the names:

Amaryllis
Lysanthe
Lazarus
Sidonie
Kolt
Avis

Many of the names in The Hunger Games are from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Here are some other Shakespearean names:

Rosalind
Corin
Cassio
Jupiter
Lucetta

And here are a few of my own original names:

Sylaen
Aerith
Adarah
Kobin

Happy Writing!

I see Nicodemus as a real name, but maybe that's just me? Hm..

I like the idea of using stars as names, because most people won't notice that.

Just an idea, the mc, should Astoria Winter?
