Background Info: I'm writing a novel and everything is going great, until I decided to add a character to make things more interesting. She is the sister to my main characters friend, Sam, but she plays a somewhat significant role.

Problem/Question: So both Sam and her sister are of Asian or Hawaiian decent. I'm trying to find two names:
1. I want either a Hawaiian or Asian name that can be shortened to Sam.
2. I want a name in the same race/catagory/whatever for Sam's sister, preferably starting with a different letter than 'S'. (I have another set of siblings that start with the same letter)

Also, I like the names to have a positive meaning. Sam and her sister's parents came directly from the country (or region...) and they still speak their native language so whatever they name their daughters would have some type of meaning.

Thanks in advance.

I found several Arabic and Indian names that could be shortened to Sam, but no Hawaiian or Japanese.

Indian...Samvarta, meaning-a mythical mare
Arabic...Sameh, forgiver
Samirah, woman who entertains
Samar, Conversations at night.

Other Indian/Arabic names for sister....
Arabic...Ashia, lively
Jaeda, goodness
Maysun, has a beautiful face
Zada, huntress, fortune

Indian...Jayanti, Victory
Kumari, Princess
Rana, Royal
Trishna, Desired

Hope this helps
