They are much easier to get away with than Harry Potter names....

The two names I've really been seeing around a lot are Jasper and Rosalie, though. They are both nice enough names, but I doubt people would've even considered using them (especially Jasper) if it had not been for Twilight...I'm kinda getting sick of them (especially Rosalie)

WDYT? A fan of the names because of the books? Liked them before the books? Hate them because of the books?

Well Rose, as you know Jasper and Rosalie are both on my faves list!
But, I did like both of these names before Twilight, I suppose maybe not as much, as I thought they were to way out there!
As for Esme, I had never seen/heard it before Twilight and thereafter reading it, I fell in love with the name!

I know there has been a rise in these names, especially here at BNG lately!

I just love the names but did so before the Twilight Craze!

Just like I love Jasper Cullen and people asume I got it from Twilight, but indeed Cullen is a family name and I have always loved them paired together!
Been on my list since I can remember!

I personally haven't read the books - let the protests begin!

I have always liked Cullen and Callen though, Callen would probably win through as Cullen appears to have a vampire association now!

There seems to be some beautiful names in the book if a little old fashioned (not that that is a problem)

Do you think that it takes something such as a book series to make names 'socially acceptable' again? I don't think that Jasper would be as acceptable (society is harsh!) had it not been for the books, but that's just my opinion!

I think you're on to something Rosie. The media can certainly influence the opinion society has on names. If someone names their child Jasper now, instead of thinking of it as a terribly old fashioned name, they are going to associate with the Twilight series (which can be either positive or negative)

Before I read Twilight, the only other time I had heard the name Jasper was in the animated disney movie 101 Dalmations. The two henchmen, Horace and Jasper, so I did not have a very postive view of the name haha

well, i've always loved the name Jasper but i'd never use it. See, Jasper is a place here in Alberta that we usually go camping in. so it was never old fashioned for me. just a place.

Well, I like Bella, but did before Twilight, though I was never a fan of Isabella. I was never really a fan of Jacob, but loved Jake. Jacob has definitely grown on me in the past year. Edward was a name I would have never considered before, and didn't really like, but now I like it, though I would never use it. I don't really like Emmett or Rosalie at all. Don't like Carlisle either. I see that as a last name that shouldn't be a first name. I do like Jasper, but I heard it years ago on my mom's favorite soap, General Hosptial. Jasper Jacks is the character and I liked it when I heard it. I do like Cullen and would have never liked it, mostly because I never even heard it before Twilight. I like Esme a lot. I think it's gorgeous!

I've been a fan of Esme before Twilight. I've always lovved Isabella. I've loved Cullen before Twilight.

Thats it.

I hate Carlisle (the name), and Emmett. (But I like Kellan Lutz name on a girl as Kellyn), Alice is too old fashioned for me, and Rosalie is okay.

I'm seeing ppl use Carlisle as a girl name but spelled Carlysle or Carlyle with the nn Lyle. I like it better for a boy name. I go on a pregnancy website an another momma due in October is naming her daughter Esme Mirabella! I love it! :D &she loved the name way before twilight back in 06/07 when she was pregnant with her son it was a girl name they agree'd on. Plus she never read the books! So, we both have gotten stuff about naming our daughters for me after a celebrity which is not the case &her's after the books&movies. But it's all good everyone has had the names before books and movies, t.v shows or after wards names come and go. Just like hair styles and clothes.

I like Harry Potter names. :D
As for Twilight names, I have always loved Rosalie, and Twilight opened my eyes to the beauty of Jasper. I also really like Cullen as a first name, though I'm not sure I'd ever use it. Alice and Edward are still a little old-school for me, and I don't care for Carlisle or Esme. Bella is the MOST OVERUSED NAME IN THE WORLD I think! For as pretty as it is, I'm growing to hate it. I'm a little on the fence about Emmett...I think it's adorable, but it makes me think of like a farmer or something.

Jasper was a guilty pleasure of mine WAY before Twilight. I actually like it much less because of the association. Rosalie was on my list too. I went to school with a girl named Rosalie and I thought it was a nice alternative to Rose. My middle name is Rose as is my mothers and I thought it would be a nice way of keeping the tradition alive & honoring my mom without using 'just' Rose which seems filler as a middle name. Now it just seems very pop culture trendy :D

Prior to Twilight I probably would have hated Jasper...now I can stand it but it's definitely not my favorite in the least. As for Rosalie...it's okay before and after. I'm not a fan of any name ending in an -ee sound.

I do love Alice and did before Twilight. The lady that watched me from the time I was 6 weeks-4 years old was named Alice and it's always stuck with me. Edward is my father's middle names so we have considered using it but are afraid it will be associated with Twilight. I do love Emmett and loved it before Twilight. I know a neighborhood kid with the name and he is the sweetest, cutest kid ever and so fell in love with his name. I don't care for Carlisle, Esme, or Isabella/Bella.

I had love Jasper WAY before Twilight. I think the pn and sp is absolutely hansome.

Edward has been always one of my favorites, needless to say, you know I love old fashioned names.

Carlisle, I still can't pronounce the name correctly, so...

Emmett, I actually never heard the name before Twilight, but I really like it.

Jacob, Still, I don't like it. But I love the character.

Isabella, I didn't like it much before, but it has grown on me. I liked Belle and Bella a really long time before, tough.

Alice, I must confess, if it weren't for Twilight, I wouldn't be that fond of the name.

Rosalie, Same as Alice, now I really like the name.

Esme, never heard it before, first I thought it was short for Esmeralda, which I really love.
