The name was used on a game in some board: Niamh. How would you say this? It seems as though it should be along the lines of Saorise (Seer-sha)- not said the way it looks.

Yep, its Irish. And like Yas said, its said as Neev (Like Eve with an N in front) I love the name. One combo I like is Lily Niamh

Oh, I'm sure it's Irish or Gaelic. Because those are the names that my brain refuses to make sense of. :)

Thanks for the pronunciation.

I just want to mention that I love Niamh, as well as several other beautiful Irish/gaelic name. I pronounce it like she said - (neev).

If you are like me and love names like Niamh, try this site:

I hadn't heard too many others beside Niamh and Saoirse, but I have several new loves after looking through that site, including Aloisia and Sinead.

Glad to help! I'm Irish, and I'm strongly considering giving my children (in the far, far future) traditional Gaelic middle names. Not first names though, since I don't really care for the Anglicized versions and I want to avoid most pronunciation issues. My favorite so far - Caoimhe. It is pronounced like kee-va and means beauty or grace. That site has many other useful articles too. The other one I found very helpful was the middle name page.

In case you didn't see the main site (the Irish names were only one section):
Namenerds

I suggest going to the unusual & unique name part.

My name book says that Niamh is pronounced nee-av. It also says that it is in the Irish Top Ten. It recommends Neve for a simpler version, but Neve is pronounced nehv, so I don't know what the authors are thinking :). Anyway, that's what it said.
