  • Interests:I LOVE reading. I'm into almost every genre and generally read a book a week, if possible. I like Iris Johansen, Karen Marie Moning, Stephen King, James Patterson, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Diana Gabaldon, Kathy Reichs, and Robert Burns (every Scot's favorite author). I really love music and even got accepted to the Mason Gross School of Performing Arts at Rutgers University (my alma mater) for vocal performance. Unfortunately performance life was not for me, so I went into English Lit and French instead. Music is still a big part of my life, and I like a multitude of musical genres from Reggae to Rock to Opera. I've seen Carmen and La bohème each twice. (And I cry every time.) My husband and I also have a special place in our hearts for The Beatles.

There are just some names that I like best as middle names, like Alexander and Lynn. What are your favorite middle names? Do you use themes or symbolic names?

I definitely like Alexander as a middle name. I think it makes a good first name, but I never like any middle names with it. My own name, LeAnne (which is actually my middle name) certainly does best as a middle name along with Ann, Nicole, Renee, Lynn, Rae, Grace, and Rose.

I'm partial to Elise/Elisa, Jane, Mae, Rae, Renée, Regina, Paige, Ellen, Maren/Merryn (saw this on a Genie Poll and fell in love) & Hazel.

Merryn I see as a first name or at least a middle name you go by! It's so unique and beautiful! Merryn Nicole works. Merryn Elizabeth, Merryn Rose, Merryn Elise, Merryn Penelope.

The woman from the Genie Poll wanted to name her daughter Cassandra Merryn, since she was possibly conceived in St. Merryn, a town in Cornwall. I thought that it was really sweet and sounded a lot like a saints name (St. Mirin).

Not only is it a pretty name, but she had a great story to go with it! That's how people SHOULD be naming their kids. :]

To me, Renee is just one of those names that sounds better as a middle name. A friend of mine is Jessica Renee, I've always thought it flowed well.

I don't really have favourite middle names, a huge part of the names I like would go just as well in the first name spot. It depends on the combos, I think. But those names that always seem to flow well are Anne, Jane, Renée, Claire (and I'm guilty of using that one), Rose (it's too popular now though) and Nicole. For boys it seems to be James, Thomas, Michael, John.

For some reason Merryn looks very unisex to me, but I like it.

My favorites for boys are: James (my sons middle name), Alexander, and Ryan.
Girls: Rose (my daughters middle name), Ruth, Mae, and Sofia

I also saw the chinese middle name "Zi" in a baby book the other day, it means "beautiful, with grace". I love it!

I like Elyse as a middle name and Avery can work too.

I like my middle name because I think it flows nicely with my first name. I'm brandy dawn. I'm so happy that my mom didn't like my dad's mom (grandma) because I'd of been Mary Jo...blech

Ooh, I'd forgotten about Elise and Elizabeth. Those work a charm too. Elyse spelled like this reminds me of Paris and Champs-Élysées (spelling?)

I also like the mn Joy. Not too fond of Hope, Grace & Faith (Hope & Faith are my cats) they've become such fillers in much the same way Nicole & Marie were in the '80s.

Ooo, I don't like the names Nicole or Renee at all...

I love Jane, Nancy, Lily, Rose, Elizabeth as middle names.

My middle name (which is LeeAnn) goes well with most names. I actually have met some one name Lee Anne Alissa. Pretty crazy, right?!

My dad's middle name is Renee. I don't like that name at all, especially on a man.

  • Interests:More than anything else in the world I love being with my family, which includes my amazing husband and our three gorgeous daughters. We are currently expecting number four, and are so excited! I am of course a mother first, but I am a writer second. I am a nut about names and etymology in general. I love reading; I’m a sucker for both the more modern fantasy books, like Harry Potter, and the also classics, like Shakespeare. Music is another thing that I could’ve live without, and I have to say my tastes definitely lean towards modern rock: Nickelback, Hinder, Papa Roach, and Theory of a Deadman are my very favorites. Not too big on television, but I couldn’t live without Lost. I also love cars (and driving them!), and I am the proud “mommy” of a Ford Mustang. I’m also pretty big on talking and I like to see myself as friendly, so I hope to see you around the boards!

As far as the more "classic" middle names go, I think my favorites are James, Grace and Marie -- but I love all three as standalone names, too

1 of my husband's 4 grandmothers was named June (Bri's grandma died when his mom was 13 and her dad remarried; we have a whole complicated family setup) But the name June is kinda growing on me though.
