Hiya!

I have a name sorted for the female protagonist in my fantasy romance, but the male one is proving itself tricky. That's why I'd like to hear some of your opinions on it :) the setting is in a really odd world full of odd people and things. The male potagonist finds himself there following an accident, so needs a normal name but one that suits his smooth, sarcastic personality. He is tall and slim with blonde long-ish hair and brown eyes. I'm English so the character will be too.

Here's my shortlist:

Beau
Idris
Jon
Jude
Levi
Luca
Milo (maybe short for Maximilian?)
Moses

Theo

Any middle names and surnames are welcome, I'm thinking of naming his sister Caroline (Caro) so ideally the two names should kinda flow together. I'd really appreciate some more cutting down to the best ones (in your opinion) and why you liked them etc.

Thanks a lot :)

Beau is short and sweet. it's not too unusual, but it's just unique enough that it will capture the readers attention. It also means "handsome" in French, which coincides with what your description of him is.

I'm not a huge fan of Idris, as it sounds a lot like Isis or Iris, which are both girls names. That could potentially cause confusion among readers, so I would cut that one.

Jon is classic, and you really can't go wrong with using it. A clever, cunning character would really fit the name.

Jude is more of a unisex name that you don't see much in society anymore. It's timeless, but also could be taken as a females name. be careful using it.

Levi and Luca are both darling names, very masculine and just unusual enough to make the story interesting. If your story has twins, maybe think about using these names for them.

Milo is cute, but it makes me think of a dog or a little kid. it is a darling name, but for a baby or toddler, not a story's protagonist.

Moses is a very biblical and serious name, usually given to an old wise man in stories and isn't very attractive for a young protagonist.

Theo is very appropriate for a handsome teenage protagonist. I love this name and think that it would go very nicely with your main man.

Now for middle and surnames (I'm going to do them for my favorite male names from your list)

Beau Charles
Beau Nikolai
Beau Lucas
Beau Daniel
Beau Ezekiel
Beau Terrance
Beau Jameson
Beau Brennan
Beau Spruce
Beau Thomas
Beau Louis

Theo Francis
Theo Simon
Theo Marcos
Theo Elijah
Theo Hyde
Theo George
Theo Alexander

Caroline Hexyl
Caroline Clairice
Caroline Guinevere
Caroline Lizzy
Caroline Ophelia
Caroline Noelle
Caroline Beatrix
Caroline Imogene
Caroline Eugenie
Caroline Hera
Caroline Isis

Surnames:

Johnston
Livingston
Gressel
Sterling
O'Shea
Tosay

You can also hyphenate unusual names with usual ones to sound more exotic

Pivot-Jones
Hexyl-Mayberry
Ersat-Johnson
Werkley-Smith

hope this helps. good luck!

I think Milo and Caroline work really well together for siblings. If you'd like a longer name, what about Maximiliano?
