I've become entranced into the vast amount of surnames that will work for a girl and still sound feminine with the name as a whole or with a nickname. Either way, surname names for girls are becoming very popular (give or take a few hundred Harper's, Mackenzie's, etc.) I've compiled a list of surnames for girls that I've been fond of and some that I can't even imagine on a little girl eventually a woman!

Feel free to comment your favorites or new ones that you love or have seen used that sound out of the ordinary!

List of Usable(s) that I love:

Sloane

Sutton

Ainsley

Bellamy

Campbell

Karrington/Carrington

Ellery

Ellington

Emerson

Everly

Hadley

Kensington

Winslet

Addison

Adair

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

List of Not So Usable(s):

Lawless

Harrison

Tucker

Wagner

Patterson

Sheridan

Abbott (possibly more for a boy?)

Abington/Abingdon

Anderson

Anniston

Beldon

Caldwell

Calderon

Calder

Callahan

Callan

Carlisle

Carlton

Carrillo

Evans

Grayson

Holbrook

Truett/Truitt

Winchester

Winslow (This would be so romantic on a boy!)

Now, some obvious names I didn't mention because I get sick of seeing them used- kind of like Addison and Madison and Harper although Harper is one of my favorites.

Thoughts?

I think a lot of surnames will work well on a little girl, the ones that I particularly like from your lists are: Sloane, Sutton, Bellamy, Emerson, Hadley, Winslet, Addison, Sheridan, Abbott, Calder, Callan, Carlisle, and Grayson.

The ones that I prefer on boys are: Sloan, Sutton, Bellamy, Emerson, Calder, Callan, Carlisle, and Grayson.

I adore Winsome on girls as a middle name. Sutton, Everly, and Adair I don't mind. I love Bellamy on boys, and Campbell is a nice one to hear on boys, too. Not big on them for boys. I like Ellery, Hadley, and Winslet on girls. I know someone with a little girl named Dempsey, I think it is way too masculine. It would be handsome on a boy. I also met a little female Crawford. Out of all the great female names out there, and even out of all surnames, it kind of boggles my mind that Crawford is the one they landed on for their little princess. And her middle name is Rae. But to each their own.

I love: Sutton, Adair, Campbell, Bellamy, Hadley, and Sheridan on girls. I prefer Harper on a boy no matter how popular it is on girls right now. Most of the others I would save for boys or they aren't my style.

I know a little girl names Copeland Grey. As much as I love Grey/Gray on a girl, I do admit that she needed a very feminine middle name. Crawford? Where in the world do these people get such names?
