I love both names, but which one goes best with my daughters' names? I know Jack is a classic, somewhat like my girls' names, but I really like Jackson. What do you think?
Thanks!

I think that if you like Jackson more than you should go with that. It's the best of both worlds...he can go by Jack or Jackson when he's older.

I agree if you use Jackson then you have the option of using Jack as a mn. Its a winner.

  • Interests:I LOVE reading. I'm into almost every genre and generally read a book a week, if possible. I like Iris Johansen, Karen Marie Moning, Stephen King, James Patterson, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Diana Gabaldon, Kathy Reichs, and Robert Burns (every Scot's favorite author). I really love music and even got accepted to the Mason Gross School of Performing Arts at Rutgers University (my alma mater) for vocal performance. Unfortunately performance life was not for me, so I went into English Lit and French instead. Music is still a big part of my life, and I like a multitude of musical genres from Reggae to Rock to Opera. I've seen Carmen and La bohème each twice. (And I cry every time.) My husband and I also have a special place in our hearts for The Beatles.

To me, Jack is more of a nickname. My step-father is John, nn Jack, so I'm a bit biased.
Jackson seems like a more complete first name to me. I think it would go well with Isabella and Lilliana.

I don't like Jackson at all, sorry. Jack, on the other hand, is lovely, so it gets my vote.

I agree, Jackson is the best of both worlds, but I don't like the whole "Michael Jackson" connection. Do you think that he would be teased because of it?

Sorry I'm so picky!

  • Interests:More than anything else in the world I love being with my family, which includes my amazing husband and our three gorgeous daughters. We are currently expecting number four, and are so excited! I am of course a mother first, but I am a writer second. I am a nut about names and etymology in general. I love reading; I’m a sucker for both the more modern fantasy books, like Harry Potter, and the also classics, like Shakespeare. Music is another thing that I could’ve live without, and I have to say my tastes definitely lean towards modern rock: Nickelback, Hinder, Papa Roach, and Theory of a Deadman are my very favorites. Not too big on television, but I couldn’t live without Lost. I also love cars (and driving them!), and I am the proud “mommy” of a Ford Mustang. I’m also pretty big on talking and I like to see myself as friendly, so I hope to see you around the boards!

Actually, Michael Jackson did not even cross my mind until you said that :) I agree though, Jackson is definitely the way to go: it sounds more complete, and it's all too easy for Jack to be used as a nickname for him. And you're not picky; this is a baby we're talking about :D

Thank goodness! That was the only drawback to the name for us.

I prefer just Jack to Jackson. Jackson is so trendy whereas Jack doesn't have such an easily pinpointed era. I generally dislike nicknames as given names (Jack is a nickname for John historically), but I don't mind Jack alone. It doesn't sound cutesy or babyish.

I actually do think of Michael Jackson, but it's a common enough name that I don't think most people are really going to say anything about that.

I would go with Jackson. I love Jack, but is always nice to have nn as an option. That way he can choose what fits him best. Both are awesome names! Good luck!

I agree with what's already been said. Name him Jackson and use Jack as a NN.

Good Luck
