Recently (As in 10 minutes ago :P) I was thinking about three names that are very similar but I only see one of them really being considered, whether for real or as a GP, and I was wondering if there was a phonetic reason for it, bad connotation with one (which I could see happening with one of them) or is one just more popular for an unknown reason?

The names are Jude, Judah and Judas.

I've seen Jude used a lot, and I always think of the song Hey, Jude by The Beatles. Could that be part of why it's so popular?

I've seen Judah used here and there but not much overall. It sound's a little incomplete to me, is that why it isn't used as much?

However, I haven't seen Judas used at all. The most infamous Judas was of course, Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus in the Bible. Could that be why the name isn't used?

What are you ladies thoughts on the names? Why do you think one is so popular while the other two are left behind?

I honestly love the name Judas but the connection with it isn't exactly pretty. It's actually on my GP list....waaay down there. And I always thought Jude could serve as a nickname for it.

I personally like Judas too, I love all three really, but I've liked Judas since I was a kid and always liked the nicknames of Jude or Judah for it to.

We actually had a Pitbull when I was kid named Judas who was a giant Teddy bear  . That might be why I'm so attached to the name. :P

I could always go for it. Judas was a traitor, but my maiden name is Arnold, and Benedict Arnold was a traitor as well  I'm sure we're related somehow <_<

This is how I'd rank them.

1.5: Jude/Judas

3: Judah

I think probably the reason for Judas not being used so much is because of the biblical connotations. It actually doesn't bother me though, not being religious, so I'd use it if I wanted to; probably with the nickname Jude too :P Best of both worlds then!

I like Judas a lot :) <3 I think its handsome! Jude and Judah are nice as well.

I guess the biblical connection to Judas would hinder popularity, but Delilah was a biblical bad girl and its fairly well used anyway :)

I think of biblical connections to a name in the same way as characters in a story, honestly. Judas and Delilah (and others) are beautiful names, and I wouldn't want to let those connections ruin the name.Or even as celebrities or anything. It makes me think of how I love Roman as a name, but in my dads day there was that man Roman Polanski was a pretty wrong man. I'm sure there'll be people that'd recognize his name, my dad being one of them. But I like Roman either way. And if I have a boy I'd probably end up using it anyway. Mainly cause Mike loves it so much haha!
