I recently came across the name/suggestion of Bo for a girl and was immediately intrigued (it is very rare for a new name to catch my interest).  I am really liking the name as a stand alone or possibly a nickname.  Ben likes the idea of Bonnie, but doesn't like the nn Bo. :\  I'm not sold on Bonnie although I do have great-great aunt who was named Bonnie.  I've also thought of possibly Boleyn, Bo-Lynn, Bowen, Isabeau, or Mirabeau but none of them are really my style.  I'm also considering using Bo as part of a double/hyphenated name but haven't run the idea by Ben yet.

What are your thoughts on Bo for a girl?

Which spelling do you prefer?

And do you prefer it for as a nickname for something else or stand alone name?

Thanks!

I know a little boy named Bowen nn Bo and have always thought it was really really cute. I've never thought of it as a girl's name before, but it could be a cute nn for something fuller. I think Bolynn or something like that could be cute.
Also, I think that Bo could stand alone, but would only suggest you consider Bo as the full name for a boy. On a girl I would only consider using it as a nn.

From your ideas, I adore Isabeau! Too bad it's not your style.

I personally adore Boheme for girls (said Bo-em), and though I personally prefer Em as the nickname, Bo would be cute, too! I've also seen Bohemia.

It's a little stretch but it seems doable to give a Bronte the nickname Bo, and you have literary connection.

A few more ideas:

Deborah

Bronwen

Ebony

Bayo

Abigail

Briony

Bijou

Roberta (if you can get Bob from Robert, why not Bo from Roberta?)

Beatrice

Bowie

Elizabeth (a stretch, but I think it could work)

A double name like Mary Bo comes to mind. And for some reason, Maebh. I don't really know why.

Beau means handsome in French, so I don't really like it on a girl.

Well Ben has said no to Bo, so I guess it will just have to remain a forbidden pleasure, lol. Darn that man!
