I just wanted to share with you some names I've come across while watching some seriously awesome Japanese anime series :). Some of them I like, some of them are interesting, and some I really don't like. I put them below the names of the series. Enjoy (even if you're not a nerd)!

Bleach

Girls: Rukia - This is pretty much the only name in this series worth sharing. I think it's...interesting.
Boys: Chad - This is the only normal name in the series, so I wanted to put it in. I don't really like it, though.

Soul Eater

Girls:
Maka - I guess it's okay.
Liz - Meh.
Patty - See above
Tsubaki - It's a little too Japanese for me, but I love the character, so...

Boys:
Soul - I don't think so.
Death - See above.
Franken - His last name is Stein :P

Gurren Lagann

Girls:
Yoko - Most people will think of Ono, but I'll just think of this kick-butt character :o
Nia - Before watching this series, I didn't like it, but now I think it's growing on me.

Boys:
Simon - I guess it's okay, though I always think of Cowell :D.
Kamina - I know, I know, it sounds like a girls' name, but he's the most awesome character in the whole anime world, so that makes up for it.
Kittan - It sounds sort of like a pet name to me, though I still like the character.
Viral - Nope.
Boota - No way :P

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Girls:
Haruhi - Too Japanese-sounding to my liking, plus she's absolutely CRAZY!
Mikuru - Again, too Japanese for me.

Boys: Kyon - Eh, I don't know.

Full Metal Alchemist

Girls:
Winry/Winly/Windy - Yes, this character has three names (more like English translations). I really like Winry and Winly; I think they sound unique. I'm not really into Windy.
Riza - I used to think it sounded old-ladyish, now it's grown on me (probably because of the character).
Trisha - It's okay.
Rose - It's pretty.
Lyla/Ryla - Another English translation fail. I've loved Lyla even before watching this, and I think Ryla is interesting, a combination of Lila and Rylee. (Oh, and the character is evil :) )

Boys:
Edward - Too Twilight-y.
Alphonse - I still don't like the name.
Elric - Maybe it's okay.
Roy - After watching the series, I kind of like it.
Bradley - See above, though I really hate this character.

That's it; I hope you enjoyed! (Wow, I still can't get over how nerdy I am! :))

A name I've liked from anime is Hikaru. It is such a gender neutral name.

I like Haruhi for some reason. Yet again. It's gender neutral. (Though I've seen it on girls in two serious. The Melancholoy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Ouran High School Host Club.)

Sakura is cute as well. I named one of my cat Sakura. I got this from Cardcaptor Sakura. Mei was a cute name as well.

You have Riku/Rikku. Again, I've seen it on both boy and girl. Same with the name Sora.

I like the name Airi from Meru Peri.

Hmmm, I'm only familiar with about half of the anime you listed. :) I mostly just read manga, and not often. I do like Sora (from Kingdom Hearts, which Ashley mentioned) only just for a girl. I also like Sakura and Hinata (although I really don't like the character named Sakura) from Naruto. I've never seen Cardcapter Sakura, though I've heard of it. Ooh, I like Kaede, too... though I can't remember what manga it's from... I like Akira from Hikaru No Go, though only for a girl. :) I think most of the anime/manga names I like are for just on girls.

Yeah, there are some really gorgeous Japanese names out there, and most are easy to pronounce. It's too bad they are all on my GP list. For some reason, these names probably wouldn't work for someone without any Japanese heritage. :)

I agree, I think the only names on my list I would actually use are Winry/Winly, Lyla/Ryla, Rose, maybe Nia, Roy, and Simon. Those are actually normal, English names that I could use without being Japanese. The other actually Japanese names on the list, even though I like some of them, I wouldn't really use, unfortunately.

I don't think Alphonse is horrible, but if I ever used it, I would probably have to restrain myself from calling my child Alu-kun :D. Are Edward, Dante, and Selim from FMA? If I'm correct, wasn't Dante used for a woman in it? I know Selim is King Bradley's son; I think it's an interesting name that I might give some thought.

Are these names you plan to use yourself? Or just names you thought were interesting? :)

Ahh, I see ;) Hehe, you never know what you might use for a babies name! :) Though, who knows, I just might use some odd name when I grow up... haha!

Simon and Rose are names I'd definitely use, though I have too many names I like more than those to use them ;) Rukia, I doubt I'd ever use, though I can definitely see some beauty to it! And Lyla, I'd use as Lila maybe. I've thought of it... though I adore Leila! <3 Can't bare the thought of teasing potential though :L Ryla I am starting to like now, actually :P But I have a friend I call Rye, and a niece I call Rye, so I guess it just has really good associations in my mind :P

Though my name list is constantly changing in my mind everyday (so I dont bother updating it everyday lol! Cause they go back and forth and whatnot...) one name that has magically lasted since I was little is Katherine. Though when I was seven I spelled it Kaytherynne LOL! I fail... <3 Hehe, lol!

Here's a link to an interesting article about Japanese baby names. I was happy to see some of my favorites on her list. :)

Thank you, Mishada, that was a very interesting article. I never knew Mika was a Japanese name, too. (It's another one of my favorite names.) It also reminded me of another name I forgot to mention on my list from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya--Yuki. Again, I probably wouldn't use it, but the character makes me like it.
