I've seen the name 'Carys' lately on the polls... how do you pronounce this? Is the "s" silent? Is it just like "Cary"? Please help... and thanks!

I've always said it (CARE iss) but most name guides say it is (KAH riss) like Karissa without the -ah.

in aurstalia carys/caris is as said above rhymed with paris, kar-ris, however i think in the states the a may be subbed with an e (for ease of saying) ie care-is/cerys

It's a Welsh name. I have heard it both ways as Katie-Nana mentioned. Care-iss rhyming with Paris is the one I hear most often. It is also how I've heard Catherine Zeta Jones pronounce her daughter Carys' name. Catherine is Welsh so I think that is the way I would pronounce it.

i dont think there is a right and wrong way esp because of accents its like in aus megan is pn differently i fine in the us its may-gen and in aus tara has really got the uh sound but in the states its more of an e sound. i find even my name my american frends find hard to pn, as its not brit-ney its bri-ta-ne. so i think it depends where you are from with pn the name

Lol, I as an american certainly do have a hard time saying brittany as bri-ta-ne :L But, I suppose it does have a lot to do with where your from! I definitely say it as CARE-is, rhyming with Paris :P

Gosh, now I can't stop sitting here going bri-TA-neeee, trying to get it right!

I would think Brittany would be Brit TA nee , and Brittney would be Brit nee

...curiously I know a girl named Brittnay who pronounces it Britt NAY.

I would say Ker-iss...but I'm southern, so our dialect is weird...it's kind of like we run everything together. We say ta-may-ta instead of toe-mate-o, if you get what I mean.

I say it so it rhymes with Paris :)

I pronounce it that way too.  I love Carys, even though I really hate Paris as a name (because of Paris Hilton and the fact that I generally dislike place names, especially for little girls).  lol
