I've changed the names of a pair of brothers a few times already, but I'm having trouble pinning them down.

They're from a religous family, so I made a list of Biblical names.  I've been trying to stick to more common names for the book as a whole, the types of names found a lot in my generation (born in '92), with the few oddballs here and there.  I graduated with a lot of Taylors and Brittanys but have only ever met the one Noshoba and the one Tempest, so I was trying to keep that in mind.

Thus far I've kept them with more "normal" names (ie Aaron & Jacob, Andrew & Matthew, Stephen & Zachary), but I'm starting to consider giving them more obscure names (Gideon, Emmanuel, Jubal, Obadiah, Reuben, Simeon, Kenan, etc).

Thoughts and suggestions?

If many people in your story have overly common names, I think giving your characters somewhat underused names (although not entirely obscure) could help them stand out from the crowd.

If you want to stick with the biblical theme, I think names like Gideon, Reuben, Zachariah, Demetrius, Ezra, Jonah, Josiah, Mordecai, Samson, Titus, or Tobias would work nicely.
